Acareer as a hospital pharmacist at White River Medical Center provides Batesville native Maggie Williams with the opportunity to work close to home, she said, adding that she serves the community where she grew up and still lives.

Williams was the first clinical pharmacy resident to practice at WRMC. She became a clinical pharmacist at WRMC in 2002, and became director of pharmacy in 2009. The pharmacy includes 11 pharmacists who dispense 3,900 doses of medication daily. The WRMC Pharmacy supports Stone County Medical Center through a remote order entry verification program.

“Working at the hospital and being a pharmacist is the best of both worlds,” she added. “It is rewarding to be able to make a difference for patients and their families.”

Williams is also active in her community. She is a member of the United Way of North Central Arkansas Board of Directors and served as the board’s president from 2015 to 2016. She is also a member of the University of Arkansas Community College Board of Visitors. Professionally, she serves on the Hospital Advisory Committee for the Arkansas Association of Health. As a preceptor for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Harding University colleges of pharmacy, she mentors students and promotes the pharmacy profession.

Williams said she is making a difference as a member of the WRMC team and improving the health of the communities the hospital serves — one patient at a time.
