Tough lineup makes early goings iffy, coach says

There is a little uncertainty surrounding the Clinton Lady Yellowjackets this season, third-year head coach Jeremy Carson said. “This team is really hard to predict,” Carson said. “I look for us to be competitive in every game we play this season. “We will have a good season if we improve defensively and on the boards. We’ve also got to establish our offensive chemistry quickly, as our early schedule is brutal.” Returning from last year’s 19-11 squad is senior Kaitlin Kirkendoll, who averaged 8.4 points and over 4 rebounds per game, and junior Alexus Smith, who averaged 7.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. “Kirkendoll and Smith return as our primary inside players,” Carson said. “Alexus is our best traditional post and has improved greatly on her finishing moves. Her biggest strength is her rebounding ability. “She could have a breakout season this year.” Carson said Kirkendoll was the second leading scorer last year and has an excellent midrange game. “She’s really attacking the basket well and is our team leader,” the coach said. Possible outside threats include sophomore Aly Bramlett, junior Summer Davidson and senior Anna Knoerr. “The offensive backcourt will have a new look after graduating four senior guards last year,” Carson said. “Davidson and Knoerr return and look to fill more prominent roles on the team. “Davidson is an explosive player who finishes really well in space. Knoerr is a knockdown 3-point shooter. “Bramlett, who is moving up from last year’s junior high squad, is ready to contribute.” Carson said he is happy with the team’s chemistry.
