MAGIE EYE CLINIC

Morrilton doctor has eye for optical assistance

-

Dr. J.J. Magie — in his 60 years as a physician — has likely seen every eye problem a patient could have. The energetic, experienced ophthalmologist said he still loves to go to work every day at his clinic, Magie Eye Clinic in Morrilton.

Although he no longer performs surgeries, he has a healthy medical practice at the clinic, which also includes an optical shop with lots of selections for people who want the latest styles in frames. He greets patients in the waiting room as if they’re old friends — and many are. He’s taken care of generations of families, and he still accepts new patients, too.

His passion for the profession hasn’t waned through the years. Alth-ough medicine has evolved exponentially since Magie became a doctor, he keeps up with the latest advances in the field.

“All my life I wanted to be a doctor,” Magie said. He opened his first ophthalmology practice in Conway in 1970 and was later joined by one of his sons, Dr. Steve Magie, who is still in practice.

“Our practice grew and grew and grew,” J.J. Magie said. They opened an office in Little Rock, followed by a satellite clinic in Morrilton, where J.J. Magie works full time.

Steve Magie said his father — always quick to tell a funny story — has boundless energy and excellent skills.

J.J. Magie said he is most proud of his family, but he loves the career he has built, too. He said it is a rewarding feeling to help an adult or child who comes into the clinic with a problem, or just to watch someone’s eyes light up when he or she gets glasses and can see the world better.
