Company keeps customers singing a happy tune

Valley Piano Co. is celebrating its 43rd year of providing quality musical instruments to the Arkansas River Valley. It’s those years of experience that allow the company to help musicians select the right instrument, with local support and service after the sale.

“We give every customer the VIP treatment,” said Brian Chenowith, store manager, whose father, Al Chenowith, founded the store in 1974. “We don’t have clerks, so every customer deals with the owners, whether they’re buying a $25,000 grand piano or a $5 set of guitar strings.”

With a showroom for product demonstrations and testing, the store specializes in new and used, vertical and grand acoustic pianos, as well as digital pianos and keyboards. “There are very few communities that still have a piano store,” Chenowith said. “We take pride in being a full-service piano dealer in the River Valley community.”

The store also offers a selection of acoustic, electric and bass guitars and amplifiers, as well as guitar accessories.

“We have a website, valley piano. com, and a Facebook page, but we are still very much an old-school, customerservice-based business. We are somewhat exclusive and boutique-ish with our product selection, but that doesn’t mean high prices,” Chenowith said. “The big-box business model works fine for certain items — light bulbs, for example — which are exactly the same in every package. But with musical instruments, each instrument has its own unique characteristics, and it can get very confusing to see items like pianos or guitars that look similar one to another but play and sound very differently. We use our 43 years of experience to form our opinion on which instruments are the best values to stock.
