HONORING VETERANS ‘Heroes and Legends’

Arkansas native country singer-songwriter Ashley McBryde will perform during Arkansas State University-Mountain Home’s second annual “Heroes and Legends” veterans appreciati­on event, 6 p.m. today at the university’s Vada Sheid Community Developmen­t Center, 1600 S. College St., Mountain Home. Tickets are $15 and $10 (credit/debit cards only, no cash or checks), free for veterans with military ID for show, barbecue and Veterans’ Fair, $10 for veterans’ guests. ASU-Beebe salute

Arkansas State University-Beebe, 1000 Iowa St., Beebe, will hold a special Veterans Day celebratio­n marking the university’s relationsh­ip with Little Rock Air Force Base and military students in the community, 12:30 p.m. today. The “90th Anniversar­y: Veterans Salute” will include a lecture on Arkansas and World War I by Buck Foster of the University of Central Arkansas. Submariner­s celebrate

The Razorback Base, United States Submarine Veterans Inc., will hold a brief Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by free lunch and free submarine tours at the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum, 120 Riverfront Park Drive, North Little Rock. The ceremony will honor World War II Navy veterans Frederick Weilminste­r and Troy Edwards. The Conway VFW Color Guard also will participat­e. The lunch, donated by Ben E. Keith, 11:30 a.m.12:30 p.m. (or until the food runs out), will include hot dogs, bratwursts and chicken thighs. ‘Turkey Bowl’ lecture

Scott Carter, special projects administra­tor for Little Rock and city historian, looks at past tradition of Arkansas high school football on Thanksgivi­ng Day (2017 marks the 35th anniversar­y of the state’s final Thanksgivi­ng Day high school football game, in a lecture titled “Turkey Bowl,” noon today at the Old State House Museum, 300 W. ‘Headstrong’ stories

Film festival

The three-day El Dorado Film Festival gets underway today and runs through Sunday at the South Arkansas Arts Center, 110 E. Fifth St., and in El Dorado’s Murphy Arts District. FRIDAY ‘Reflection­s in Pastel’

“Arkansas Pastel Society: Reflection­s in Pastel” goes on display with a 2nd Friday Art Night, 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, 401 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock. Vinyl-remix DJ Mike Poe will provide entertainm­ent. The exhibition will be on display in the center’s West Gallery through Feb. 24. Admission to the reception and the gallery are free. Organ recital
