UCA chorus set for concert Thursday

-

CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas University Chorus will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

“This concert features four selections by Andrea Ramsey, a native Arkansas composer,” said Sheri CookCunningham, director of the University Chorus. “Andrea’s belief in the power of music to provide a sense of community is evident in her compositions, and the audience will hear that in ‘The Soul’s Own Speech.’”

The concept of light provides the backdrop for the second part of the concert. Daniel Elder’s “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” is an adaptation of the familiar tune sung by children everywhere. The VOCA (Voices of Central Arkansas) High School Choir will join with the University Chorus to sing this song, as well as “Sure on this Shining Night,” by Morten Lauridsen, and “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.” The concert will conclude with an energetic gospel song, “Shout Glory,” by Byron Smith.

Four student conductors will direct the majority of the concert.

The University Chorus is a mixture of music and nonmusic majors and provides a relaxed rehearsal environment with many opportunities for student input, Cook-Cunningham said. It is a nonauditioned choir and is open to any UCA student.
