Alexander voters back sales-tax rise

-

Voters passed in Alexander a 1 percentage-point narrowly raise in the city’s sales and use tax for the town’s general fund, according to noncertified results.

Complete but unofficial results showed: For . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 59 Against . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 55

The tax passed by one vote in Pulaski County (5-4) and by three votes in Saline County (54-51). Alexander is in both counties.

If the results are certified showing passage, this would increase the town’s local tax from 2 percent to 3 percent. The new tax rate would take effect Jan. 1.
