MENA — Declaring that he would kill every officer before he would surrender, Julius Carden, believed to be one of the bandits who robbed the Bank of Glenwood of nearly $8,000 about three weeks ago, and kidnapped the cashier, was captured by a posse led by Sheriff H.W. Finger, after a running battle at Foran’s Gap, five miles east of this city. Carden was out on bond pending a hearing in which he was charged with being implicated in the robbery of the First National Bank at Heavener, Okla., in December, 1915.

Gregory Howard Stillman, 6, of 9023 South Heights Road, accidentally hanged himself about 1 p.m. Friday while playing alone in his backyard, Deputy Sheriffs Bill Adcox and Clyde J. King said. They said the boy had climbed on top of a two-foot stepladder, tied a rope to a low limb over his head, placed a loop around his neck and apparently kicked over the ladder. His mother, Mrs. Grady H. Stillman, had been talking to the boy in the yard a few minutes earlier, then she had gone into the house, the deputies said. An aunt of the boy and another woman drove in the driveway and saw the boy hanging from the rope, the deputies said.

Banks rejected the position taken by attorneys for Derrick Campbell, 18, of 7505 Vega Drive that guns on private property are exempted from the law. Campbell says he was on private property when the shots were fired.
