ASU loses to Indiana on road

SUN BELT MEN INDIANA 87, ARKANSAS ST. 70

Juwan Morgan scored 28 points to lead Indiana to a 87-70 victory over Arkansas State University on Wednesday night at Assembly Hall in Bloomingto­n, Ind.

Morgan also had eight rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks for the Hoosiers (2-2).

Devonte Green had 12 points while De’Ron Davis and Robert Johnson each added 10 points.

The Red Wolves (2-3) were led by Deven Simms’ 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Tristin Walley finished with 12 points and six rebounds.

Arkansas State shot 41.9 percent (26 of 62) from the floor, but was outrebound­ed by Indiana 43-33.

The Hoosiers finished 33 of 66 (50 percent) from the floor and made 16 of 21 at the freethrow line.

Arkansas State trailed 36-31 with 3:45 left in the first half. But Indiana finished the half on an 11-2 run to lead 47-33 at halftime.

The Red Wolves cut the lead to 66-62 on Ty Cockfield’s layup with 7:43 remaining. That was as close as ASU got, as Indiana extended its lead to 83-66 with 2:07 left.

ASU travels to Tampa, Fla., on Friday to take on South Florida. SUN BELT WOMEN NO. 19 TEXAS A&M 66, UALR 49 The University of Arkansas at Little Rock women’s basketball team led by eight points after one quarter, but Texas A&M came back to defeat the Trojans at Reed Arena in College Station, Texas.

UALR (1-2) led 22-14 at the end of the first quarter. But Texas A&M (3-1) outscored the Trojans 16-8 in the second quarter to tie the game at 30-30 at halftime.

A 22-8 third-quarter allowed the Aggies to pull away as they went ahead 52-38.

Danni Williams led Texas A&M with 18 points. She made 3 three-pointers.

Also for the Aggies, Chennedy Carter had 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting. Anriel Howard finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Khaalia Hillsman added 10 points and nine rebounds.

For UALR, Ronjanae DeGray scored a team-high 17 points. Monique Townson had nine points while Raeyana DeGray added eight points.

UALR was held to 34.5 percent shooting (20 of 58). Texas A&M finished 25-of57 shooting (43.9 percent). The Aggies outrebound­ed the Trojans 44-26.

The Trojans will be at Rice on Friday before returning to the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock on Tuesday to face Oklahoma.
