Facing revenue needs

-

With the imminent passage of the Republican tax-cut package, we can now add a new title to Republican congressmen or senators’ names: Tax Rapist. These esteemed men and women are setting out to rape the American taxpayer to allow corporations and companies to have a massive tax cut and to add a trillion dollars to the deficit. And the chief tax rapist in the House, now that we are going to have an increased deficit, suddenly remembers that we now should attack Medicare, Medicaid, and other programs that help the elderly, the sick, and the poor to finance the deficit he just created.

Our Republican representatives in Washington don’t seem to understand that to reduce a deficit, you have to have more revenue than expenses. Have they ever (outside of Defense) said to themselves, “What are the needs of the country and how do we provide for them?” It is not time for a tax cut since the economy is doing well, but a time for a tax increase to meet the needs of our voting population. It is time to actually face the need for increased revenue and not rely on the very wrong Laffer curve to provide the funds.

Our nation and the world have changed significantly since the Reagan era, but the Republican mindset is still back with Ozzie and Harriet. The man who helped create Reaganomics said it is a hoax. Time to believe him and get back to reality.
