Ship takes shape

USS Little Rock Namesake Committee will hold a watch party, 9 a.m. Saturday at the Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., Little Rock, to watch the live-stream broadcast of the U.S. Navy commission­ing, in Buffalo, N.Y., of the new USS Little Rock. The ninth of 15 new Freedom-class littoral combat ships will be commission­ed, alongside its namesake, decommissi­oned in 1976, now a museum ship at Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park. Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola and North Little Rock Mayor Joe Smith will be among the approximat­ely 30 Arkansans representi­ng the state. Doors open at 9 a.m.; the ceremony begins at 9:45.
