–––––❖––––– ELMER HOOTEN, age 85, of Sherwood passed Monday, Dec. 11, 2017. Born in Shiloh, Ark., June 7, 1932.

Preceded in death by parents, Fred Hooten and Alice Gray Hooten of NLR, wife Linda McGinty Hooten, brother Allen Hooten of California, sisters Marguerite Bearden and Doris Morehart of NLR, sons Jeff and David Hooten of NLR, daughter Dana Anderson of South Carolina, and a great-grandson Bryce Hooten of NLR.

Survived by 3 daughters Sandra Mayo and Deborah Treece of Sherwood, Brenda Pratt of Wisconsin, sister Freida Rigal of NLR, brothers Ernest (Gayla) Hooten of Sherwood, Ben Hooten of Hot Springs, 11 grandchild­ren, and 14 great-grandchild­ren.

Elmer was a Korean War Navy Veteran who retired from Union Pacific Railroad and a longtime member of Indianhead Lake Baptist Church.

H. GERALD (JERRY) HUGHES, my precious husband, passed away on December 12, 2017, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born on January 20,

1940, to Hulon

E. and Nellie D.

Hughes in Stuttgart, Arkansas, and grew up in North Little

Rock, Arkansas.

He loved God and serving others. He was a great man of faith and served many years as a deacon at the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ and on the board of Central Arkansas Christian Schools. He also proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

After attending UALR, he founded and operated Hughes Building Specialtie­s and Installers, Inc. He received his Architectu­ral Hardware Consultant certificat­ion at a very young age.

In 1959, he married the love of his life, Nina, by whom he is survived. They walked hand in hand for fifty-eight wonderful years. He is also survived by his son, Kevin Hughes (Kelley); his daughter, Lori Hughes; grandsons, Scott and Alex Hughes; two sisters, Pat Gire and Alice Perryman; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m., Sunday, December 17, 2017, at Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, 10900 Rodney Parham Road, Little Rock, Arkansas. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

7, 2017. Iman, as she was fondly called, loved her family and to do fun things with them. –––––❖––––– PATRICIA ELIZABETH SCHLESIER, 77, of Mabelvale, passed away December 12, 2017. She was born January 19, 1940, in Little Rock to the late William Harvey and Eleene Elizabeth Smith Garrett. Patricia was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Sardis and worked for Walmart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Schlesier and brother, William H. Garrett Jr. Patricia is survived by her sons, Roger (Vanda) Schlesier of Benton, Ted (Myra) Schlesier of Mabelvale, daughter, Teresa (Johnny) Gravett of Mabelvale, brothers, Lee (Peggy) Garrett of Benton, Joseph (Susie) Garrett of Hot Springs, sister in law, Mei Chu Garrett of Mabelvale, grandchild­ren, Bailey (Garrett) Rich, Chris Godwin, Justin Gravett, Jasmyn Schlesier and Andrew Schlesier.

–––––❖––––– REGINA ANN “JEANNIE” SMITH was called to heaven on Friday, Dec. 8, 2017. She passed peacefully at her home in Little

Rock, surrounded by her loving family and close friends. Jeannie was born June

13, 1956 in Richmond, Calif.

She is survived by her husband, Ron Smith, three children, Whitney Smith, Craig Smith and Matthew Smith; her father, Ray Terrill of Little Rock; sister, Jacqueline (Mark) Morris of Tulsa, Okla.; brother, Mark (Roberta) of Jupiter, Fla.; nine nieces and seven nephews. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, George Smith (Michelene) of Bismarck, Ark.; Rob Smith (Gwen) of Lake Charles, La., and sisters-in-law; Cindy McDaniel (Stephen) of Meridian, Miss., Debbie Allain (Ladd) of Lake Charles, La. and Stacie Stockton of Orange Beach, Ala. Jeannie was preceded in death by her mother and role model, Bernieta Terrill.

She graduated from University of Maryland before relocating to Little Rock, Ark. She was an extremely successful business owner. At the time of her passing, she owned BSI Inc., a health insurance company, and SO Restaurant. Her hobbies included interior decorating, cooking, traveling, listening to music and dancing. She was a master sommelier (wine expert).

Words cannot adequately describe Jeannie. She was a woman who simply loved God and every person God placed on her path. Her beauty radiated not only on the outside, but from deep within. She accepted Christ as her savior at an early age and lived an incredible life; never shy about sharing her faith with others.

Jeannie could light up an entire room without saying a word. Although our angel has transferre­d to heaven, her light will continue to shine brightly in the lives of her children, husband, and the countless lives she touched. She will be missed but never forgotten. If you want to fully describe Jeannie Smith, read Proverbs 31: 10-31.

Laura worked at

Timex for many years, before joining her husband on cross country trucking runs. She eventually settled on becoming a barber, and loved all things frog related.

Laura is preceded in death by her husband, Carl, and two brothers. She is survived by her 12 children, 18 grandchild­ren, 17 great-grandchild­ren, one brother and a host of family and friends.

–––––❖––––– PATRICIA (PAT) ANN ANDERSON STRICKER of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on December

11, 2017. She was born in Chattanoog­a, Tennessee, on

March 18, 1940, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from the University of Tennessee at Martin, but she lost interest in homemaking and she pursued her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She completed her graduate degree when her daughter was four years old and she was seven months pregnant with her son.

Pat worked as a social worker at the Arkansas State Hospital, St. Francis House, and Little Rock Family Practice before working as an independen­t consultant for nursing homes throughout Arkansas. She then began her private practice as a therapist for PBHC, Lockheed Martin, and McCain Psychother­apy. Pat was passionate about helping others, and along with her friend Connie Kirkland, establishe­d the first shelter for victims of domestic violence in the City of Little Rock.

A lifelong Episcopali­an, Pat was active at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and later at Christ Episcopal Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. After raising her two children, Pat loved spending evenings listening to good music at the Afterthoug­ht as well as taking annual trips to the King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena. She also enjoyed traveling to many different places with friends. Pat was a free-spirit disinteres­ted in convention­s and loved by all who knew her. She battled vascular dementia, Alzheimer’s, and Glioblasto­ma with the same tenacity with which she approached everything in life.

Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Claude Edward Anderson and Rosalie Hilda Scholer Anderson of Tracy City, Tennessee. She is survived by her daughter, Kristine Carol Stricker Chu (husband Joe), her son Scott Alan Stricker (wife Beth), four grandsons, Matthew Joseph Chu, Bradley Anderson Chu, Justin Allen Echols, and Matthew Christophe­r Echols, as well as a host of other family and friends.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. this Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church located on the corner of Fifth and Scott Streets. Interment of ashes will follow the service in the Crease Close. Mildred is preceded in death by her husband Leroy S. Young and son Robert Young. Services will be held Friday, December 15 at 1 p.m. at the Arkansas State Veteran Cemetery in North Little Rock.
