PRESCOTT — At a negro Christmas celebration near Lackland, in the lower part of the county, last night, Nora Sutton’s throat was cut. Death was instantaneous. Zoila Smith was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Luke Stelle and is in jail. She admits the killing, it is said, and will plead the unwritten law, claiming the Sutton woman had alienated the affections of her husband and had placed presents on the Christmas tree for him. She will be tried here in January.

Many Arkansans across the state helped those less fortunate than themselves on Christmas Day by cooking and serving meals for the homeless. One of Arkansas’ best known businessmen helped feed the homeless at the Dorcas House, a Little Rock shelter for homeless and battered women and children. Don Tyson, chairman of Tyson Foods Inc. of Springdale, helped dish up roasted chicken, turkey, and the trimmings at the shelter. His company furnished the food. The Dorcas House is part of the Union Rescue Mission organization.

TEXARKANA — The Texarkana Police Department is the latest law enforcement agency testing the sleek Dodge Charger for its fleet. For years, police departments, including the Arkansas State Police, mostly used Ford Crown Victorias. In 2006, the state police ordered 40 Chargers in a test to see whether that model should replace the Crown Victoria. With stylish lines and grille, plus 18-inch wheels, the Dodge Charger police cruiser has a more distinctive look — one reason police officials across the nation began praising the Charger, which is a reworking of the classic 1960s car and debuted as a police cruiser about two years ago.
