Jailed suspect has new sex charges levied
Hot Springs man, then19, accused of having sexual contact with 12-year-old
HOT SPRINGS — A man already in custody since last year on charges related to sex with an underage girl was charged Tuesday with two additional felony counts of rape in a second incident involving another minor, according to police.
Laquaveon Germain Haywood, 20, of Hot Springs, was served warrants on the two counts of rape, punishable by up to life in prison, and a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, punishable by up to one year in jail, at the Garland County jail.
Haywood has remained in custody in lieu of $5,000 bond since his arrest Sept. 27 on two felony counts of sexual indecency with a child, punishable by up to six years in prison. His bond on the new charges was set at zero. He appeared Wednesday in Garland County District Court for an arraignment.
Haywood is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Garland County Circuit Court for a hearing on the sexual indecency charges to determine if statements he made to Hot Springs police at the time of his arrest will be admissible.
Detective Kenny May was notified Nov. 2 of sexual allegations involving a girl and Haywood, according to the probable cause affidavit for the new charges.
The girl’s mother reported Nov. 3 that her daughter had told her she was involved in a sexual relationship with Haywood, the affidavit said. The relationship began in the summer of 2017 and continued until September, according to the affidavit. At the time, girl was 12 and Haywood was 19.
In an interview Nov. 6 at Cooper Anthony Mercy Child Advocacy Center, the girl disclosed she and Haywood engaged in intercourse on multiple occasions, the last time being just days prior to his arrest, the affidavit said.
According to the girl’s statement, she would sneak out of her house and meet Haywood at a church on Mount Tabor Road. She said the two of them had “normal sex” that involved kissing and sexual intercourse.
The first incident happened in July at Haywood’s residence and involved sexual intercourse and oral sex, according to the girl’s statement. She also told police that Haywood allowed her to stay at his residence during the summer when she had run away from home, and purchased about 5 grams of marijuana to smoke a “blunt” with her.
On Nov. 29, May interviewed Haywood at the detention center, and he admitted to having sex with the girl but denied knowing her age at the time they had sex, the affidavit said.
The sexual indecency charges Haywood was previously charged with involved a 14-year-old girl he reportedly had a relationship with in July and August last year, according to court documents.
