LOYD BURTON, 87, of Maumelle, Arkansas passed away on Tuesday, January

2, 2018. He was born November

16, 1930 to Garfield W. Burton and Jessie Mae

Mitchell Burton in Moro, Arkansas.

Mr. Burton is survived by one son, Chris Burton (Brenda), of Keller, Texas; two daughters, Katherine Hale

(Butch), of Sherwood, Arkansas; Elizabeth McCarthy (Mike), of Kathleen, Georgia; four grandchild­ren, Rob McCarthy (Rachel), Jenna Grossi (Steve), Anna McCarthy and Hannah Smith (Blake); one sister, Erma Hendrix, of Marianna, Arkansas, and one brother, Bill Burton (Bernice), of Clarksvill­e, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maureen Burton, and two sisters, Deanie Mathews and Betty Allshouse.

From humble beginnings as a farmer’s son, Loyd dreamed of seeing the world. He accomplish­ed this with 26 years in the United States Air Force. Once back in his homestate of Arkansas, Loyd worked for the United States Postal Service for over 20 years. Loyd was passionate about photograph­y, gardening, birds, and his family.

Mr. AMOS JOHNSON CASON, 70, of Jacksonvil­le passed from this life on December 31, 2017. He was born January 19, 1947 in Grady, Arkansas to the late Leander Cason and Eveal Davis Cason. Amos confessed a hope in Christ at an early age in Grady, Arkansas at Mt. Nebo Church. He graduated from C.P. Coleman High School, class of 1965.

Mr. Cason served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring after 24 years of service, and was a Vietnam veteran. Amos loved traveling, having traveled to several countries including South Africa, Cuba, Thailand and Jamaica. He loved fishing and playing poker, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchild­ren.

In addition to his parent he is preceded in death by a sister, Mamie Guy. He was married to Jamlong Knongpenni­t and from this union he had two children. Survivors include his daughter, Somporn Mollik (Lincoln) of Little Rock, Ark.., son, John A. Cason (LaToya) of Scott AFB, Illinois; grandchild­ren, Elijah Cason, Amir Cason and Jackson Smith. Other survivors include sisters, Lucille Cason, Clair Gooseberry and Eveal Marks all of Pine Bluff, Ark., along with a host of nieces and nephews and friends. Special honorary granddaugh­ters, Summer Jenkins and Autumn Cook also survive him.

2, 2018. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska on January 22,

1955, the third of six children born to Margie and

Donald Hartzell. Graduating from Catholic

High School, he received a scholarshi­p to Tulane University, made his home in New Orleans where he built a 25 year career in the brokerage business, and upon retirement, returned to Little Rock.

David was an avid lover of history and music and a passionate follower of all sports. His children were the light of his life, and he said to always live by the words of McCartney, “Let it be…”

Preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Daniel and Nathan Hartzell, David is survived by his loving siblings, Michael Hartzell, Donna Green and twin sister, Debbie Glasgow; three children, Lauren Meilleur (Chris), David Hartzell, Jr. (Ashley) and Natalie Hartzell, along with their mother, Judith Sansone Hartzell; and four grandchild­ren, Avarie, Molly, Jack and Emma, all of whom reside in Louisiana.

Chee Chee was born on December 11th, 1950, in Little Rock. She attended Hall High School. She worked at Arkansas School for the Deaf until her early retirement. She loved watching her sons when they were younger at any and all sports they played. Even coaching a soccer team. She loved the Razorbacks (loved more to complain about Frank Broyles).

2018. He was born in Traskwood, Arkansas, on September

Lenard and Dora Eldridge Kelly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Christine

Wells Kelly; grandson, Billy Daniel, Jr.; two brothers, Lawrence and Morris Kelly; and two sisters, Treby Graham and Mamie Lewis.

He attended Glen Rose Schools and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II serving on the Escort Carrier USS Windham Bay as a Boatswain’s Mate Second Class. He was a watchmaker by profession and retired from Timex. He was a member of Graves Memorial Baptist Church and a former member and deacon at Amboy Baptist Church. Stanley was an avid golfer in his day and enjoyed keeping a vegetable garden as recently as last summer.

He is survived by his four children: daughter, Drucilla (Robert) Cantrell; son, Jodie (Glenda) Kelly, Sr.; daughter, Janis (Billy) Daniel, Sr.; and daughter, Tamara (Don) Huggins. Also, surviving him are grandsons, Jodie (Jennifer) Kelly, Jr.; Jason (Tish) Kelly; Daniel (Mallory) Huggins and granddaugh­ters, Misty (Chris) Witcher and Dana (Sean) Nichols; five great-grandsons; seven great-granddaugh­ters and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friend Elizabeth Kelley.

Pack was born to David E. Pack and Shawn Patrom Pack. She passed away on December 29, the year 2017 to Heavens Galaxy surrounded in love.

Anyone who knew her and her lions heart was well aware of her adoration all Star Wars, hence the theme we have chosen to honor her along with her JRAFROTC, Band and personal accomplish­ments.

Sydney was raised in the Cabot/ Austin area and was a junior at Cabot High School. She was a valued member of the JRAFROTC and was a trumpet player in the high school band. She was a fierce gamer and a great river pole fisher. Her talents, incredible wit and intelligen­ce were impressive to many. After scoring high on her military aptitude test, Colonel Havens told her she could write her own ticket with a military career. She was strongly considerin­g a navy enlistment focusing on nuclear weapons program. She also had a passion for language and considered a law degree. There was much to think about for her future as a Class of 2018 graduate.

We want to thank the Cabot school district for her education and the opportunit­ies that push the students towards excellence. Your work is undeniable profession­ally and personally.

To Colonel Havens, your staff and cadets, thank you for your camaraderi­e and brotherhoo­d. The discipline, citizenshi­p and pride of

country taught is beyond words to be said. She truly loved this organizati­on and all that it represente­d.

To the Cabot Band staff and students, thank you for bringing her from First Note to being an accomplish­ed trumpet player. She loved being part of the competitio­n marching band and the pep squad band. Thank you for this wonderful staff, group of musicians and the talent you all share.

We want to thank all of the Lonoke City and County First Responders who executed a flawless emergency response. You provided critical care skills and quick coordinati­on for a high level care transport. You also had the capacity to provide emotional/spiritual care to the family on site. Thank you to Children’s Medical Center Critical Care staff for your relentless, commendabl­e efforts to save this precious life. A bright moment to cherish in this loss is that Sydney was able to be a tissue donor through Aurora. We are forever in debt for your efforts and the hope that her donations will change lives.

Buddy was born

August 10˜, 1928 to Charlie and Elsie (Eakin) Allen in Gurdon, Ark.,

He worked on the railroad, managed a Ford dealership, and retired from Reynolds Metal Company. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Gurdon.

Buddy led a versatile life. He was a sailor (Merchant Marine), Pilot (Civil Air Patrol), Camper and fisherman, an Ardent Razorback Fan and “Road Hog” member. He loved interactin­g with people especially family and friends. Buddy is preceded in death by his wife Emogene (Hasley) Allen of 69 years, his parents and two brothers Bob and Billy Allen.

Buddy is survived by a son, James R. (Karen) Allen of Hot Springs, Ark. and one daughter, Marianne (Paul) Roe of Arkadelphi­a, Ark., two sisters, Linda McCree of North Little Rock, Ark. and Pat Talley of Gurdon, Ark., four grandchild­ren, Jennilyn (Brandon) Stone, Brooks (Amy) Allen, Chris (Shelly) Roe, Sarah (Steve) Reagin, great grandchild­ren: Trevor (Cady), Shelby, Audrey, Landon, Matt, Cami and Taylor; and one great-greatgrand­child Rylee Kate.

HOT SPRINGS — David Martin Scudder, Sr., age 82, of Hot Springs, died Wednesday,

January 3, 2018.

He was born on

October 27, 1935, in Carthage, Arkansas, the son of Robert Lee Scudder and

Mary Gertrude

Rotten Scudder.

On November

29, 1958, he married Mary Key. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and three sisters.

While living in Little Rock, David was a member of Winfield-Quapaw Quarter United Methodist Church for 24 years. After moving to Hot Springs, he was a member of Piney Grove United Methodist, where he was actively involved with the United Methodist Men, WOWS and held many offices within the church. He was a retired senior engineer with AT&T after 25 years of service.

David is survived by his wife, Mary Key Scudder of Hot Springs; his son, Marty Scudder of Rison; his daughter and son-in-law, Cherie and Bubba Ash of Benton, Louisiana; four grandchild­ren, Whitney and Kelsey Monroe, Trey and Samantha Scudder, Braylon and Lauren Ash and Tanner Ash; two great-grandchild­ren, Lilly Scudder and JJ Scudder; one sister, Winnie Henry of North Little Rock; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Piney Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Gallimore officiatin­g. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will follow at Rockport Cemetery, Malvern, under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

Robert was born in Cabot, Arkansas on

July 21, 1923 to

Robert Otho and

Willie Mae Sullivan Russell. He grew up in the Oak Grove Community and graduated from North Little Rock High School. After graduating from high school, he volunteere­d to be a U.S. Marine in World War II at age 19. He served four years enduring the terrible battle on Iwo Jima. He served with the 5th Marine Division, 27th unit in the third wave attack. His service was always very important to him and he was always very patriotic.

After the war Robert met Inez Hurst and they married July 26, 1946. They were devoted to each other and their family for 66 years, until her passing in 2013. Two children, Cathy and T. Michael were born to them. He attended college in California as a married adult after World War II. He and Inez worked on improving their education for several years.

They moved to California in 1952 where Robert became a civil engineer and was a member of the Operating Engineer Union for 65 years.

Robert was a wonderful, caring, intelligen­t father, brother and grandfathe­r. He was a very talented home improvemen­t person. Robert was a perfection­ist and could fix nearly anything.

Robert and Inez were children of the depression who started out poor and worked all their lives to improve themselves and their family. Their family has always enjoyed a close relationsh­ip and he will be greatly missed as a father and grandfathe­r that his family could depend upon.

Robert was a Christian who believed strongly in the Bible and would always say he “dealt direct” with the Lord. Robert and Inez loved going dancing for many years with friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Russell; one son, T. Michael Russell; one sister, Martha Tenney. He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Andrews and husband Robert of Prescott, Ark.; sister, Bernice Thatcher of St. Louis, Mo; grandchild­ren Todd Harvey and wife Misti of Conway, Ark., Kelly Fountain and husband Miles of Prescott, Ark., Joshua Russell of Seattle, Wash., Ryan Harvey and wife Tina of Prescott, Ark., Cody Russell of Seaside, Calif. and eight great grandchild­ren.

STAR CITY — JoAnn Watson, age 92, of Star City died Wednesday, January 3, 2018. She was born in Batesville, Arkansas, where she graduated from high school. She attended Arkansas College (now Lyon College) and graduated with a degree in education. She moved to Star City in 1947 and taught English at Star City High School for 35 years. The joy of her life was teaching and watching her students become successful adults. She was a wonderful, loving mother and enjoyed collecting antiques for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jim Watson; her parents, Hugh and Mae Wright; and a sister, Jackie Wright.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Taylor and husband, Randy; a granddaugh­ter, Ashley Greer and her husband Phillip; one great-granddaugh­ter, Addison Greer; and a great-grandson, Autry Greer. She is also survived by her sister, Sara Crisp.
