Enough already

Why continue to finance our enemies?

-

THIS COUNTRY’S president has clearly had it with the spongers who are willing enough to accept humongous sums of money from American taxpayers, aka We the People, but offer only insults and boycotts in return. Donald Trump, chief executive of the United States and businessman par excellence, now has raised some pointed questions about this one-sided arrangement, and it’s about time.

To quote Mr. Trump: “We have taken Jerusalem, the toughest part of the [Mideast peace] negotiation, off the table, but Israel, for that, would have had to pay more. But with the Palestinians no longer willing to talk peace, why should we make any of these massive future payments to them?”

That’s a good question. And the answer should be clear: This country is tired of playing Uncle Sucker and isn’t having any more of it. Whether it’s the Palestinians or Pakistanis who are pretending to be our friends so long as they can extract more millions from us, the same policy should apply: No more! So said the president in one of his typically emphatic tweets the other day, exclamation point and all.

“It’s not only Pakistan that we pay billions of dollars to for nothing, but also many other countries,” the president noted. And he proposes to cut the freeloaders’ money line to the U.S. Treasury, which can only be good news for American taxpayers.

’Tis a wise country that can tell its friends from its enemies and treat each accordingly. This country’s ambassador to the madhouse known as the United Nations anticipated the president’s warning when she told the UN’s Security Council: “We still very much want to have a peace process. Nothing changes with that. The Palestinians now have to show they want to come to the table. As of now, they’re not coming to the table, but they ask for aid. We’re not giving the aid. We’re going to make sure that they come to the table.”

Good luck with that, Ambassador Haley. After all the times the Middle Eastern peace process has instead become a war process, it’ll be interesting to see how many more times Uncle Sugar will swallow the torn and tattered propaganda line the Arab countries have been peddling all these wasted decades.
