Conway’s London sinks NLR

- TIM COOPER

7A-CENTRAL BOYS

CONWAY 78, NORTH LITTLE ROCK 74, OT

Caleb London’s shooting took down No. 2 North Little Rock on Tuesday night.

London banked in a contested three-pointer at the end of regulation, hit two more threes in overtime and finished with 29 points as the Wampus Cats secured a thrilling 78-74 victory over the host Charging Wildcats in a 7A-Central Conference game.

“He’s very assertive offensively,” said Conway Coach Brian “Salty” Longing of the 6-3 sophomore. “There are times when he will take some ill-advised shots, but the moment is never too big for him.”

North Little Rock (12-3, 1-1) had taken a 69-66 lead with 10.3 seconds remaining when sophomore Moses Moody drained a three-pointer from the right baseline.

After a timeout, Conway (11-4, 2-0) was closely guarded all the way down the court, but junior Lerome Thompson got the ball to London, whose 22-footer hit the backboard and went through to send the game into the extra period.

London hit another three-pointer to open the overtime scoring and the Wampus Cats never trailed again. The two teams exchanged leads 12 times.

“He made the play,” North Little Rock Coach Johnny Rice said. “And he made two more in the overtime. We thought we did a great job defending it, but [London] banked in a contested fade-away three.”

Moody scored 25 points to lead North Little Rock, while junior Collin Moore added 21 points and 10 rebounds.

For Conway, Thompson added 13 points, Stuart Lowe 12 and Ja’Kylin Kaiser 10.
