Craigslist meet-up turns into robbery

- RACHEL HERZOG

North Little Rock police say a man was robbed at knifepoint Saturday while trying to meet with a woman he had messaged on Craigslist.

The 29-year-old from Maryland told officers he had corresponded with someone after he placed an advertisement asking for “company” on the website and went to meet that person at a home in the 200 block of Healy Street about 1 p.m.

The man said he knocked on the door of a small building behind the main house and a a man let him in, according to the police report. The man was described as in his early 20s, about 6 feet tall with black hair and a beard with sideburns.

The stranger was armed with a knife and tried to get the victim to engage in sexual activity,

which the victim refused, the report states. The 29-yearold said the attacker demanded his wallet, and when he couldn’t find any cash, he demanded the gold ring the victim was wearing, which the report valued at $300.

The victim was then forced to drive to Centennial Bank, 4308 E. Broadway, and take out $150 from the ATM, after which he drove the robber back to the Healy Street area. The robber left the car with the ring and cash, the Maryland man told police.

Police identified a possible suspect on the basis of a name that appeared in one of the emails sent to the victim. The 24-year-old listed in the report did not appear on the Pulaski County jail online inmate roster Tuesday morning.
