TODAY UCA exhibition
“Pathways: An Exhibition of Large Format & Experimental Printmaking,” works by 29 artists from Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin, goes on display today in the Baum Gallery, McCastlain Hall, University of Central Arkansas, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.
The exhibition will remain up through Feb. 15. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday. Featured artist-in-residence David C. Williams will give a printmaking demonstration, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 14 in UCA’s Schichtl Hall and a lecture at 1:40 p.m. Feb. 15 in McCastlain Hall. Admission to the events and the gallery are free. SATURDAY Pan on pointe
Blackbird Academy of Arts in Conway will stage Peter Pan, a ballet by Carmon DeLeone, 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in Reynolds Performance Hall, University of Central Arkansas, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway. Choreographers are academy faculty members and Ballet Arkansas Company members Paul Tillman and Megan Hustel. Tillman also designed the sets. Sponsors are Arvest Bank, Eric and Donna Hutchison of Conway and United Capital Financial Life Management. Tickets are $10-20, $5-$10 for children 11 and younger, plus service charges. Homebrew benefit
The Little Rock Kickball Association, in partnership with Stone’s Throw Brewing, is putting on the fifth annual Big Red Ball Homebrew Contest, 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Next Level Events, 1400 W. Markham St., Little Rock. The event, crowning the association’s official beer, benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas. General admission tickets, $25 in advance, $30 day of the event, include hors d’oeuvres, samples from contestants, a People’s Choice ballot and unlimited Stone’s Throw brews. Competition concert
Winners of Henderson State University music department’s annual President’s Concert competition in November perform at 2 p.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 199 Barcelona Road., Hot Springs Village, under the auspices of the Hot Springs/Hot Springs Village Symphony Guild.
John Platt, clarinet, will solo in the first movement from Carl Maria von Weber’s
Clarinet Concerto No. 2. Mezzo-soprano Frednesha Whiting will sing “Non so piu cosa son” from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. Flutist Zaquary Hale will perform Fantasie for Flute by Gabriel Faure. Baritone Ryan Whitley will sing the aria “Ein Madchen oder Weibchen” from Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Soprano Kendall Gibson will sing “Adieu, notre petite table” from Jules Massenet’s Manon. Baritone Wesley Lamendola will sing “Bella siccome un angelo” from Gaetano Donizetti’s Don
Pasquale. And Raven Morris, euphonium, will solo in the first movement from John Stevens’ Euphonium Concerto.

ETC. Photo competition
Wednesday is the deadline to submit photographs for the South Arkansas Arts Center’s biennial open photography competition, “The Viewfinder.” Submit up to two framed photographs, taken with any type of photographic cameras — SLR, digital, Polaroid or cellphone — with a completed entry form and the entry fee of $15, $10 for center members (one free), for each piece. The judge — Terrance Armstard, photographer and news editor with the El Dorado News Times — and show chairman have final authority to define what constitutes an acceptable entry. Best of Show, first through third places and honorable mentions will receive cash prizes at an awards presentation, part of an artists’ reception, 6-8 p.m. Feb. 10 at the center, 110 E.
