MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Freshman forward Kevin Knox scored 19 of his season-high 34 points in the second half and Kentucky overcame a 17-point deficit to beat No. 7 West Virginia 83-76 in the Big 12-SEC Challenge on Saturday night.

Knox offset a strong performance from Jevon Carter, who finished with 26 points for West Virginia (16-5). James “Beetle” Bolden added 17 points and Sagaba Konate had 13 points and seven blocked shots for the Mountaineers.

West Virginia led for most of the game but fell quiet after halftime. Knox scored 12 points during a 21-2 run, capped by his dunk with 10:39 left for a 58-56 lead.

Bolden, a Kentucky native who said he had been waiting for this opportunity to play his home-state school, hit a three-pointer to tie the score at 74 with 1:23 left. But West Virginia didn’t make another basket.

Knox’s three-pointer with 1:05 remaining put Kentucky ahead to stay. Nick Richards dunked off a rebound with 30 seconds left, and Quade Green and Wenyen Gabriel each sank two free throws after that to seal the victory.

It marked the third time in five games that West Virginia has blown a double-digit lead in the second half.

The Wildcats beat a ranked team for the first time this season and have won two consecutive since dropping out of the AP Top 25 last Monday for the first time since March 2014.

The Mountaineers have lost two consecutive and four

of their last five games after being ranked No. 2 two weeks ago, their highest ranking since December 1959.

NO. 22 TENNESSEE 68, IOWA STATE 45

AMES, Iowa — Reserve Lamonte Turner scored 20 points, James Daniel III had 16 off the bench and 22ndranked Tennessee rolled past Iowa State for its sixth victory in seven games.

Admiral Schofield had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Volunteers (155), who overcame a horrid start to post their fifth road victory of the season.

Tennessee missed 15 of its first 17 shots to fall into a quick early hole. But the Vols soon settled down in their first trip to Hilton Coliseum, closing the first half on a 26-7 run keyed by 3 threes from Daniel — who led the nation in scoring in 2015-16 while at Howard. Donovan Jackson had 13 points for the Cyclones (11-9).

NO. 5 KANSAS 79, TEXAS A&M 68

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Svi Mykhailiuk poured in 24 points, Malik Newman added 15 and fifth-ranked Kansas built a big lead on Texas A&M in the first half before sustaining it most of the way to take the victory.

Lagerald Vick added 10 points, and Udoka Azubuike had a couple of rim-rattling dunks, as the Jayhawks (17-4) won their fourth consecutive in the Big 12SEC Challenge and 10th in a row over the Aggies.

Tyler Davis had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead Texas A&M (13-8), which dug a 45-27 halftime hole and only managed to climb about halfway out of it over the final 20 minutes.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Riley LaChance’s three-pointer with 1:17 left put Vanderbilt ahead to stay, and the Commodores beat Texas Christian.

Vanderbilt (8-13) now has won two of three, and the Commodores improved to 2-3 in the showdown between the Power Five conferences. They won with Coach Bryce Drew starting his 11th different lineup this season featuring seniors LaChance and Jeff Roberson with a trio of freshmen.

LaChance finished with 24 points and Roberson added 20 for the Commodores. Kenrich Williams led five Horned Frogs (15-6) in double figures with 17 points and Vladimir Brodziansky added 15.

NO. 14 TEXAS TECH 70, SOUTH CAROLINA 63

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Keenan Evans scored 31 points including the go-ahead three-pointer with 2:12 left to lift No. 14 Texas Tech to a victory over South Carolina.

The Gamecocks (13-8) were looking to rally past their third ranked opponent in four games and were up 58-53 on Felipe Haase’s three with 6:21 to go. That’s when Evans scored eight of the Red Raiders’ next nine points, including the three from the left arc, for a 62-61 lead.

Evans followed that with a three-point play with 46 seconds left to secure the victory in the teams’ first meeting since December 1976.

Texas Tech (17-4) outscored South Carolina 17-5 over the final six minutes.

NO. 20 FLORIDA 81, BAYLOR 60

Florida lost that one at the three-point line. Coach Mike White’s team handled the Bears (12-9, 0-6 Big 12) thanks mostly to a red-hot shooting performance from behind the arc.

AUSTIN, Texas — Freshman Mohamed Bamba scored a season-best 25 points to go with 15 rebounds and 4 blocks as Texas defeated Mississippi.

KANSAS STATE 56, GEORGIA 51

MANHATTAN, Kansas — Kansas State outscored Georgia 12-2 in the final 6:11 to defeat the Georgia Bulldogs in Bramlage Coliseum.

It was a ground-out affair for the Wildcats (16-5), who were held well below their season average of 77.1 points per contest. Dean Wade led Kansas State with 20 points on 7 of 17 shooting, including hitting some clutch second-half baskets down the stretch to help extend the Wildcats lead.

Georgia (12-8) was led in scoring by Yante Maten with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

ALABAMA 80, NO. 12 OKLAHOMA 73

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama freshman Collin Sexton scored 18 points, Herbert Jones added 14 and the Crimson Tide upset No. 12 Oklahoma.

Alabama (14-7) did a terrific defensive job on Oklahoma freshman sensation Trae Young, who scored just 17 points on 6-of-17 shooting from the field. It was only the second time this season Young — who came into the game leading the nation with more than 30 points per game — was held under 20 points.

Oklahoma (15-5) trailed by six at halftime but rallied to take a 60-55 lead with 11 minutes remaining. Alabama responded with the next 13 points for a 68-60 advantage it wouldn’t relinquish.
