Foundation’s Patron Party includes raffle, Oscar picks
An intimate group of Wolfe Street Foundation supporters gathered Jan. 25 for a bit of informal socializing at the west Little Rock home of Ashley and Allen Engstrom in anticipation of the foundation’s forthcoming Oscar-night gala.
The Patron Party — a precursor to Red Carpet 2018, a black-tie, Oscar-night watch party — featured heavy hors d’oeuvres from Trio’s, drinks and a chance for an early purchase of a red box for the event’s signature Red Box jewelry raffle. A short presentation began with opening remarks by Caroline Ford, the foundation’s executive director, and continued with remarks by foundation board Chairman Tim Laughlin and state Film Commissioner Christopher Crane.
Guests were given a preview of items to be auctioned live at the gala, including such offbeat fare as a Great Dane puppy, a generator and a visit to the set of HBO crime drama True Detective when it begins filming in Northwest Arkansas. Former NFL wide receiver Vance Johnson was announced as the gala’s special guest.
Crane also offered his predictions on Oscar winners, speculating that actor Daniel Day-Lewis will own the night. Day-Lewis’ “farewell” film
Phantom Thread is up for six nominations, including best actor and best picture.
Red Carpet 2018 will take place March 4 in the William Grant Still Grand Ballroom of the Robinson Center. Now in its 19th year, the event is the only Oscar watch party in Arkansas to have ever been sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Wolfe Street Foundation offers programs geared toward recovery from alcoholism and addiction.
