Misunderstands issue

-

Mr. David Brooks’ “memo” seeks to help the progressives rid themselves of a single issue that causes the party to lose elections. He maintains that Roe v. Wade galvanized a huge voting group that the Democratic Party has continued to lose.

He fails to realize that more and more Americans view the unborn as having civil rights that should be protected if we as a nation value the sanctity of all human life. He’s begging for that party to rethink its priorities, but I believe he totally misunderstands that it is not the brain that is involved in this controversial issue. It is, instead, the heart. GAYLE BURNS Jonesboro from former smokers” campaign led by the CDC. The three-month campaign led 1.6 million smokers to try to quit smoking, and inspired them to prompt family members and friends to quit. If Arkansas could partner with other federal research centers and follow in the footsteps of this campaign, the goal of reducing the number of preventable premature births can be achieved.

I would urge all readers to write to their state representatives. The more people who bring this issue to the attention of our legislators, the better chance there will be for change to happen. Given the stress and expense caused by preterm births, it would be in the interest of the people of Arkansas to support the proposed measure to reduce prematurity rates.
