W. Memphis makes its shots

JONESBORO — The West Memphis Blue Devils came out hot at the start of both halves and wound up blowing past Valley View 66-38 on Tuesday night.

The Blue Devils (23-2, 16-1 6A/5A-3) made 8 of their first 12 shots from the floor and ended up hitting 13 of their 26 field-goal attempts in the second half.

“We came in focused from the start tonight,” said West Memphis Coach Marcus Brown, whose team has now won 16 in a row. “We only had one or two lapses. Other than that, it was almost perfection. Which is something we seek every game.”

The Blue Devils forced 16 Valley View turnovers, which gives the Blazers 42 miscues in the two games against West Memphis this season. The Blue Devils had four turnovers, a season low.

“We took great care of the ball, and for the most part we knew where we were going with it,” Brown said.

The visitors bolted to a 15-2 lead on the strength of 3-of-4 shooting from the three-point arc. West Memphis led 23-8 at the end of the first quarter and 36-18 at halftime.

Senior guard C.J. Prackett hit 3 three-pointers and led the Blue Devils in scoring with 14, while senior swingman Zach Byrd scored 12 and Stinson pumped in 10.

Lehman McNabb was Valley View’s top scorer with eight points.
