JULIA ROSE HOCKENBERR­Y COUNTS was born on September 19, 1927, in Shirleysbu­rg, Huntingdon County, Pa., to Benjamin and Lillian Harry Hockenberr­y and passed from this Earth on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the age of 90 years. She is predecease­d by her parents, siblings: Mary Crone, Esther Hockenberr­y, Margaret Davis (Leonard), John Hockenberr­y (Frances), Kenneth Hockenberr­y (Wilma), Dorothy McKinley, Pete Hockenberr­y and several nieces and nephews.

Julia was raised in Sproul, Pa., attended elementary school in Claysburg, Pa., graduated from Milford Michigan High School and Draughon School of Business. Julia retired from the North Little Rock School District. She was a past Brownie and Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher, a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church and former member of Levy United Methodist Church.

Julia is survived by her husband of 70 years, Doyle Counts, her children, Linda and Robert, two grandchild­ren Ashley (TJ Snodgrass) and Aaron Hatcher and great-grandson, Nate Snodgrass; and a sister, Joann Farmer (Bob), brother-in-law, Gregg McKinley and her kitty, Katie. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends across the country that she greatly loved.

Services are Saturday, February 17th, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Lakewood United Methodist Church with Rev. Cindy Henry officiatin­g. Julia was cremated at her request, her ashes will be interred at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Cabot, Ark. A portion of her ashes will be taken to Sproul, Pa., to be placed with her family. –––––❖––––– HEINRICH “HEINZ” KRICK, 76, of Little Rock, born May 31, 1941, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Judy Krick.

He is survived by his son, Jimmy (Teresa) Krick; grandchild­ren, Zech Krick, China (Dillon) Raper, Bradley Krick, Paxton Krick and Madison Krick-(Trenton) Tindell; his daughter, Katrina Ashmore; grandchild­ren, Niki Ramos, Karteina Bradshaw, Jerry Ashmore and Harley Wedge; 15 great-grandchild­ren and his dog, Gretchen II; his siblings, Elisabeth Fehr, Karl Krick and Jakob Mueller.

In his former years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cookouts with friends and family. His passion in life was carpentry in which he excelled. He will be truly missed.

ETHEL MAE LINDSEY, 82, of Little Rock, Arkansas, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 10, 2018. She was born September 6, 1935, to Annie and James Knobloch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Brother Billy W. Lindsey. She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in law, Angela L. Sprow and Richard Sprow, Betty W. Taylor and Scott Taylor, and Jo Michelle Pemberton and Chris Pemberton. She had six grandchild­ren of whom she was very proud: Amie Throckmort­on, Aaron Taylor, Merri Sprow, Elizabeth Sprow, Christophe­r Pemberton, and Emily Pemberton. She had one great-granddaugh­ter, Layla Taylor.

Mae was a dedicated mother and loved her family. She worked as a cosmetolog­ist and a nurse’s aide. Mae was a Baptist and active in her church. She will be missed for all the wonderful things she did to help others and lift them up in hard times. She loved to laugh and drive fast!! She was born to the late Thomas and Ethia Smith on September 25, 1938, in Witherspoo­n, Ark.

Dorothy is also preceded in death by her oldest sister, Bertha Robinson; and only brother, Thomas Smith Jr. Survivors are her husband, Jimmie Price; daughter, Niana Clay (Robert); grandson, Ubangi Robinson Sr.; and great-grandchild­ren, Fatima, Ubangi Jr., Tion, Paige, Talia and Khalib Robinson; and sisters, Jessie Ann Marshall and Mable Daniels (Charles).

He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the United Methodist Church of Pine Bluff, a 32 degree Mason and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.

HOT SPRINGS — Jo Ann (Burroughs) Jackson, 80, of Hot Springs, Ark., passed away February 10, 2018. She was born September 26, 1937, to Willie Yule and Helen Margaret (Ewing) Burroughs, in Center Valley, a little community outside of Russellvil­le.

Jo Ann was married to Francis King “Stoney” Jackson, Jr. Jo Ann is survived by her four children, Debra (Jimmy) Stout of Fort Smith, Steven Francis Jackson (Scott Boone) of Boise, Idaho, Karen (Nick) Perry of Hot Springs, and Lori Jackson of Hot Springs; her seven grandchild­ren, Jim Stout, Rebecca Stout (Derek Harvey), Jessica (Chris) Iovinelli, Brandon Perry, Mack Hinson IV, Jackson Hinson, and Christian Hinson; and her nine great-grandchild­ren, Amelia, Olivia, and Gavin Stout; Mason Perry; Dax, Dagen, and Cashton Harvey; and Kenlee and Aiden Iovinelli.

Jo Ann loved horseracin­g, gardening, and the Razorbacks in good or bad times. Jo Ann continued working for her husband’s company, Jackson’s Porcelain Lab, after he retired from the business.

A rosary will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday followed by an 11 a.m. funeral mass at The Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist by Father James West, 589 W Grand Ave., Hot Springs, Ark., 71901. A reception with the family will follow in the parish hall.

–––––❖––––– PANGBURN — Carolynne (Johnson) Curry, known to her friends as “Lynne”, peacefully passed away at 86 years young, on Saturday, February 10, 2018, right where she wanted to be — in the comfort of her own home surrounded by family, close friends and just as important, her “critters” (Chicky, Buffy, Tootsie, Willy and Cissy). Born in Jacksonvil­le, Fla., she grew up in Memphis, Tenn., and lived her adult years in North Little Rock and her retirement years in Pangburn.

Lynne is survived by her daughter, Susan Grayson of Little Rock; her son, Bill Sowell (and wife Cindy) of North Little Rock and in her eyes, the two most incredible grandchild­ren, Abby and Evan Sowell, both of North Little Rock. Lynne is also survived by her brother Ted Johnson (and wife Joyce) of Memphis, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fern and Theo Johnson of Memphis, Tenn., and the love of her life, Allan Curry of North Little Rock and then Pangburn.

Lynne spent 28 years in the travel industry and then she and Allan built their dream home on the Little Red River where they retired in Pangburn. Her passion was all the animals where she served on the board of the Heber Springs Humane Society for 30 years, the Surgical Center at the Humane Society is named in her honor. She also helped found the Humane Society Thrift Shop in Heber Springs to support the Humane Society. Lynne volunteere­d at Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy, served on the Wilburn Fire Department board and was an Elder at First Presbyteri­an Church in Heber Springs.

Her beautiful smile touched everyone she met. Her tireless energy served the thousands of animals saved by the Heber Springs Humane Society where her request would be that memorials be sent to the Heber Springs Humane Society at P.O. Box 401, Heber Springs, Ark. 72543.

Her family would like to thank Arkansas Hospice for their loving care of Lynne and her family. Every staff member demonstrat­ed love, kindness, profession­alism and respect in their care for her. –––––❖––––– WYNNE — Ann Windsor Brown of Wynne, Arkansas, formerly of Marianna, Ark., age 85, went to be with her Lord on February 12, 2018. Ann was born on December 1, 1932 to Charles Arthur Windsor and Maxcyne Daggett Shurlds in Helena, Arkansas. She married Ben Thompson Brown Jr. on November 2, 1951, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her parents, one daughter, Patricia Brown Kroll, and one brother, Eben Daggett. Ann graduated from T.A. Futrell High School in Marianna and attended the University of Memphis and Hendrix College. She was an active member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Marianna, serving as choir director, lay reader, and in many other capacities. She was an avid bridge player who achieved her life master in American Contract Bridge League.

She is survived by two daughters, Amelia Brown Davis and husband Robert Bub of Wynne, Ark., and Julia Brown Davis and husband Don of Pittsboro, N.C.; three granddaugh­ters, Denise Davis Jones and husband Barry of Marianna, Karen Davis McLendon and husband Elton of Wynne, and Brittany Louise Davis of Durham, N.C.; five great-grandchild­ren, Sarah and Tenley McLendon, Corey, Amelia Cate, and Abby Jones; one brother, Larry Shurlds of Charleston, S.C.; three sisters, Katherine Shurlds of Fayettevil­le, Ark., Lynn Taylor of Greensboro, N.C., and Amy Myren of Cherokee Village, Ark.; and her beloved dog, Shorty.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Elmer “Gene” King died Friday January 19 at the age of 84 in San Diego. He had lived there for more than six decades and for a long time had a second home in Palm Desert. He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Martha, in 2009. He is survived by his son Grant and wife Shelly of Eagle, Idaho and two grandchild­ren, Tanner of Scottsdale and Lauren of Boise.

His love of art and architectu­re led to travels around the world and for extended periods he and his wife lived in England, France and Spain. His travels also allowed him to write articles for newspapers and magazines. An avid photograph­er, his articles were frequently accompanie­d by pictures he had taken on these trips.

Born in 1933 near Mountain Home, Arkansas he graduated from Arkansas State University, where he majored in Journalism and English and edited the school paper, the Echo. It was at Arkansas State where he met and married Martha Miller, a fellow student. He worked for the Arkansas Democrat until being drafted into the U.S. Navy, where he served in the Pacific Fleet and worked as the editor of the forcewide paper. A candidate for Officers Training School, he chose to return to civilian life where he became a public relations pioneer and was in the first accreditat­ion class of the Public Relations Society of America.

Before forming his own public relations agency, the King Company, he worked for a time as a representa­tive in San Diego for D’Arcy, one of the country’s largest advertisin­g agencies. He worked with many institutio­ns of San Diego, including St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, San Diego Symphony and San Diego Ballet along with many charity organizati­ons.

In 2002, Mr. King received the Robinson Cross “for decades of service” to St. Paul’s Cathedral for his long service to the church in almost every volunteer position. –––––❖––––– DALLAS, Texas — Carolyn Ferrill Dunnigan was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to James Fletcher Ferrill and Helen Bujarski Ferrill. She graduated from Mount St. Mary Academy, attended Southweste­rn at Memphis (now Rhodes College) and graduated from the University of Arkansas with a BA in Journalism.

She interned at the Arkansas Democrat and became a staff writer at The Dallas Morning News in 1965.

Carolyn always excelled at everything she did. She was an Arkansas state champion freestyle swimmer and diver and served as president of her Delta Delta Delta sorority. She received one of the first early Headliner awards from the Press Club of Dallas, she served as president of the Rosemont Elementary School PTA, and she was most proud to be the first female member and first female president of the Oak Cliff Lions Club.

Carolyn met her husband, David Dunnigan, when both worked on the staff of The Dallas Morning News. They served as executive vice presidents of the Greater Dallas Planning Council for many years, and she served as administra­tive director of the Dallas Assembly and the Dallas Friday Group. She was a board member of Kessler-Stevens Book Club, The Well Community, Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts and a member of Kessler Park United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, sons, Brendan and wife Susanne Ice Dunnigan of San Francisco, Calif. and Colin and his wife Laura Ingersoll Dunnigan of Jackson, Miss.; four grandsons, Dylan and Devin of San Francisco and Morgan and Connor of Jackson; sister, Jane Ferrill Colclasure and her husband Bruce of Little Rock; nieces, Angela Hill and Amanda Green Owen, nephews, Bruce Colclasure Jr., Jacob Green, Robert Green and David Green, and many cousins.
