Canadian country star Lindi Ortega to play LR

Lindi Ortega will perform at 8 p.m. today at South on Main in Little Rock. Tickets (if any remain) are $35.75, $33.50, $28 and $24.25.

Ortega, who just returned from headlining several shows on the Cayamo music cruise of the Caribbean, is a singer-songwriter from Toronto, who lived in Nashville, Tenn., for a time before marrying and moving to western Canada in 2017. She released her debut album, The Taste of Forbidden Fruit, in 2001, and followed that with Fall From Grace in 2005, Little Red Boots in 2011, Cigarettes & Truckstops in 2012, Tin Star in 2013 and Faded Gloryville in 2015.

She won the Canadian Country Music Associatio­n award for Roots Artist of the Year in 2014 and 2015.

Joe Crookston will perform a Little Rock Folk Club show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Hibernia Irish Tavern in Little Rock. Admission is $15, $10 for military, $8 for students with ID and free for accompanie­d children under age 12 and accompanie­d by an adult.

Crookston, an acoustic guitarist, lap slide player and fiddler, was named in 2016 the Folk Alliance Internatio­nal Artist-in-Residence. His songs include tales about drunk roosters, rattlesnak­e tails, meter maids, Brooklyn summers, Galway heather and Oklahoma towns.

Born and reared in rural Ohio, he attended Kent State University and later lived in Seattle. He is now based in Ithaca, N.Y. He has released six albums.

Granger Smith, along with opening acts Runaway June, Smithfield, Morgan Evans and Michael Tyler, will perform at 8 p.m. Friday at Metroplex Live in Little Rock. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 the day of the show.

Smith, a country singer from Texas, also has an “alter ego” as Earl Dibbles Jr. Smith has released nine studio albums and one live album. His best-known singles are “Backroad Song” and “If the Boot Fits.”

The Arkansas Times’ annual Musicians’ Showcase continues its month of competitio­n at 8 p.m. today with Round 3 at Stickyz Rock ’n’ Roll Chicken Shack in Little Rock. Admission is $5; $8 for those under age 21.

The third group of competitor­s are: Sabine Valley, Fiyah Burnz, Crankbait, All the Way Korean and Deep Sequence.

Bands will perform each Thursday night in February, with winners each week facing off March 9.
