TODAY Dreams signing
Little Rock native Arthur LazRael Lison, who directed the movies Private Number and Kontrast, will sign copies of his first novel, Neighborhood of Dreams, 6-9 p.m. today at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, in the Other Center, 4000 McCain Blvd., North Little Rock. The novel focuses on a successful Hollywood celebrity forced to remember “family, friendship, love, tragedy and the ultimate victory of his youth in Little Rock.”
Lison is also partnering with North Little Rock Police Officer Tommy Norman to award $1,000 scholarships to six area high school students through the Lison Scholarship Program “to further their education into college or a trade program,” according to a news release.
WEDNESDAY UALR Octaroon
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock theater arts and dance department will stage the regional premiere of An Octoroon by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Haislip Theatre, Center for Performing Arts, UALR, 5900 University Drive, Little Rock. The play contains mature language and themes and is not recommended for children. UALR faculty members will conduct pre-show panel discussions with melodrama, Louisiana Creole culture, racial stereotypes in popular media and other issues relevant to the play, 6:45-7:15 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and 1:45-2:15 p.m. Sunday. Postshow discussions with the director and actors will follow the Thursday and Friday shows. Tickets are $10, $5 for military, senior citizens and UALR faculty, staff and students. THURSDAY Lunch lecture
Mosaic Templars Cultural Center and Boswell Mourot Fine Art Gallery will host a lunch lecture with artist and North Little Rock native Danny Broadway, 12:15 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium at the museum, 501 W. Ninth St., Little Rock. Broadway will discuss his inspirations and how he portrays movement, light and emotion in images of people, nature and activities. Admission is free. ETC. ‘Beautiful’ posters
Entries are due March 1 for the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Commission’s statewide Great American Cleanup Youth Poster Contest for students in grades K-5. Scouts, 4-H club members and home-schooled students are also encouraged to enter — one poster per class or group.
Posters will be sorted into two divisions: grades K-2 and 3-5. Posters must be no larger than 8 ½ x 11 inches, on any sort of paper medium, including copier paper, construction paper and poster board. Prizes will go to the top three posters in each division; winning posters and honorable mentions will be on display April 1627 at the Thea Foundation Art Gallery on Main Street in North Little Rock and on Keep Arkansas Beautiful’s Facebook page.
