Hutchcraft, T-birds get the victory

MORRILTON — Guy-Perkins (33-8) held off a determined Dermott (23-14) to advance in the Class 1A boys state tournament at Devil Dog Arena in Morrilton on Wednesday.

The Thunderbir­ds’ victory ensured the 42-year career of Coach John Hutchcraft would continue at least one more day..

Minton led the Thunderbir­ds with 28 points. Ambrose Rodriguez had 17, Wyatt Spires had 16, Carson Pertrocell­i scored 15 and Brooks Tipton chipped in 13. Hall led Dermott with a game-high 29 while McAlister had 13 and Dwalyn Jones added 12. MOUNT VERNON-ENOLA 76, ACORN 59

Kanyin Martin scored 13 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter as Mount Vernon-Enola (29-8) rallied for a victory over Acorn (22-13).

Joshua Leggett had 15 and Jasper Lashley added 11 for the Warhawks. Jeremiah Swint led the Tigers with 22 while Cross Hughes had 17. IZARD CO. 72, NEVADA 62

The Cougars (36-4) held on for a victory over the Blue Jays (23-11).

In the fourth quarter, Izard County made only two field goals but converted on 17 of 21 free throws.

Justin Cooper led Izard County with 28 points while Caleb Faulkner added 25. For Nevada, Keyonte Coleman had 25 and Brandon Gulley added 13. 3A BOYS AT MONTICELLO MANILA 40, JESSIEVILL­E 35

Senior Joel Burrow led Manila with 16 points, and Manila outscored Jessievill­e 17-12 in the fourth quarter to advance.

Bradley Woodall added 13 and Brock Birmingham 9 for Manila. Braxton Shifflett scored 12, and Alex Burleson had 10 for Jessievill­e. PERRYVILLE 46, VALLEY SPRINGS 36

Senior Chandler Roland led the Mustangs (27-4) with 23 points and senior Garrison Branscum added 12 in a victory over the Tigers (28-10).

Valley Springs was led by Lawson Jenkins’ 18 points. CHARLESTON 79, RIVERCREST 78

Junior guard Brayden Caudle drove in the lane for a short jumper at the buzzer to give the Tigers (21-7) a victory over the Colts (12-15).

Charleston led 59-43 heading into the final quarter, but behind 14 points from junior Demilon Brown, Rivercrest grabbed a late lead before Caudle hit the game winner.

Charleston sophomore Brayden Ross scored a game-high 31 points. Chase Ewing added 15 and Jacob Green 13 for the Tigers. Brown finished with 24 points for Rivercrest.
