Daredevils enjoy big 1st quarter

MORRILTON — Brooke Zimmerman had 20 points as Wonderview (35-3) cruised by Mount Ida (10-11) in its first game of the Class 1A girls state tournament at Devil Dog Arena.

The Lady Daredevils were almost unstoppabl­e in the first quarter, breaking out to a 32-8 lead.

In addition to Zimmerman’s 20 points, Bre Gottsponer added 12 and Bailey Wright had 10.

Taking advantage of a scoring edge in every quarter, Mount Vernon-Enola (32-8) rolled to victory over Acorn (278) in the second round of the Class 1A state tournament at Devil Dog Arena in Morrilton on Wednesday.

Gracie Raby had 19 points for the Lady Warhawks while Kyndal Hardy had 16 and Kenzie Woodruff added 12. Faith Hill had 13 points for Acorn, hitting 3 of the Lady Tigers’ 5 three-pointers. Tori Barrett finished with 12 points. MAMMOTH SPRING 85, OUACHITA 67

The Lady Bears (29-10) broke away from the Lady Warriors (27-9) in the second quarter for a victory.

In the final quarter, Mammoth Spring made 13 of 15 free throws while making only three field goals.

Whitney Layne had a game-high 27 points to lead the Lady Bears. Brianna Hocum added 20 and Lauren Mitchell had 11. For Ouachita, Gigi Davis scored 18 and Emily McBay added 12. 3A GIRLS AT MONTICELLO MELBOURNE 38, TWO RIVERS 33

Freshman Reagan Rapert led the Lady Bearkatz (26-6) with 18 points in a victory over the Lady Gators (22-8).

Junior Klyah Hunt led Two Rivers with 14 points. CHARLESTON 52, HOXIE 42

Senior forward Hattie Newhart scored 16 points to lead the Lady Tigers (20-8) over defending state champion Hoxie (22-11).

Junior Allie Green and sophomore Baylee King each added 13 for Charleston.

Junior Sydney Gillham and freshman Jaedyn Brown each scored 11 to pace Hoxie. LAMAR 58, RIVERSIDE 54, OT

Sophomore Lakyn Sanders scored 4 of her 12 points in overtime as the Lady Warriors (23-7) defeated the Lady Rebels (36-3).

Angel Wyatt led Lamar with 16 points while Raylynn Judah and Aspen Williams added 13 each.

Riverside, which trailed 33-13 at the half but battled back to tie the game at 52-52 at the end of regulation, was paced by Haven Robertson’s 16 points. Lotti Hoffman added 12 points.
