NO. 15 TEXAS A&M 82, ARKANSAS 52

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Danni Williams scored 22 points with four three-pointers, Chennedy Carter had 19 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists and No. 15 Texas A&M beat Arkansas 82-52 on Thursday in the second round of the SEC Tournament.

Carter scored seven of her team’s first nine points as Texas A&M closed the first quarter on an 8-0 run. The Aggies held Arkansas to three second-quarter field goals en route to a 41-19 lead. The Aggies made their final 10 shots of the first quarter and their first two of the second.

Arkansas’ six second-quarter points tied a season low this season in the quarter.

Khaalia Hillsman added 10 points and 13 rebounds for Texas A&M (23-8). Anriel Howard also grabbed 13 boards as the Aggies outrebounded Arkansas 63-32.

Fifth-seeded Texas A&M faces 24th-ranked and No. 4 seed LSU today.

“We played very well,” said Texas A&M Coach Gary Blair. “We came in knowing that a team who plays the day before was feeling great about themselves. Arkansas had a great win against Vanderbilt. This was a business-like approach for us.

“We had so much transition early, it wasn’t that we were converting but they were 1 out of 16 from the three for the first half and it opened up the doors for us to run.”

Devin Cosper scored 15 points on 6-of-20 shooting for Arkansas (13-18). She was just 1 of 10 from three-point distance as the Razorbacks hit 6 of 33. Malica Monk added 13 points.

It was the 29th time in 31 games that she scored in double figures.

The Razorbacks got seven points from Taylah Thomas and six points from Keiryn Swenson who hit a pair of three-pointers.

Arkansas did force 18 Texas A&M turnovers. The Razorbacks only committed five, the 11th time this season they had fewer than 10 miscues in a game.
