That’s our chance to get it to our big guys. We played really good in that stretch in the second quarter, not just on the offensive end, but on the defensive end, making them miss shots.”

Pea Ridge Coach Trent Loyd said he believed the Southerners’ run was the difference Thursday.

“Mikey is one of our best players. He got into a little foul trouble,” Loyd said. “That was a big part of the game. They got a little more physical with us and some shots didn’t fall. They just went on a run that we couldn’t stop in the second quarter.”

The Southerners continued to exert their dominance in the second half.

Patterson’s three-pointer and Milholjcic’s layup stretched their team’s lead to 44-29, forcing Loyd to call a timeout with 2:16 left in the third quarter.
