Wells’ 3s start roll for Wolves

LAKE HAMILTON 66, JACKSONVIL­LE 54

WEST MEMPHIS — Lake Hamilton’s Taylor Wells had it going so well from three-point range Thursday that when the fifth one went through the net in the first quarter she let out a burst of emotion.

Wells hit six of her seven three-pointers in the first half, and the Lady Wolves withstood a furious second-half rally by Jacksonvil­le to win 66-54 over Jacksonvil­le in the Class 6A state tournament.

“I was so excited that I just let it all out at one point,” said Wells who finished with a team-high 21 points. “It’s my senior year and I just want me and the team to do so well.”

Lake Hamilton (18-13), which committed just one turnover in the opening two quarters, ran off to a 42-20 halftime lead.

In the second half as Jacksonvil­le’s full-court press forced eight third-quarter turnovers. Jacksonvil­le’s Shy Christophe­r did all she could to keep her team in the game, scoring a game-high 23 points, all of them coming in the final three quarters.

Jacksonvil­le (15-16) committed eight turnovers for the game as the two teams battled to a 27-27 tie on the boards.

Jenny Peake added 14 points for Lake Hamilton, while Logan Keener had 13.

MARION 56, SHERIDAN 52

Marion rallied from a 19-point deficit with just over three minutes left in the third quarter to beat Sheridan (23-8).

Behind the sharp shooting of Diamond Morris, the Lady Yellow Jackets built a 41-22 third-quarter lead, but Morris, who scored 21 points, picked up her fourth foul early in the fourth quarter.

Marion (17-14) trailed 43-32 heading into the fourth.

Marion center Mikiya McAdory scored 5 of her team-high 14 points in the fourth quarter, but it came down to two free throws by guard Tashlee Milow with 7.3 seconds left to clinch the victory.

Joi Montgomery added 12 points for Marion.

Sheridan got 11 points from Sarah Moore.

JONESBORO 49, RUSSELLVIL­LE 35

Jonesboro turned up the pressure on defense to limit the Lady Cyclones to just nine first-half points.

The Lady Hurricane (25-7) led 28-9 at halftime and then cruised for the remainder of the way.

Sophomore Elauna Eaton scored eight of her team-high 14 points in the first half.

Kianna Hardaway scored 11 points for the Hurricane.
