Personal space
Anderson Penix
Where I live: On the north edge of the MacArthur Park Historic District in downtown Little Rock
Occupation: Communications director, Downtown Little Rock Partnership
My favorite space is: My desk in the corner of my apartment
Why? The space consists of an old chair and an even older desk I brought from home when I moved to Little Rock several years ago. The chair, especially, reminds me of those carefree days growing up, sitting at a kitchen table looking out the window.
On the desk, I’ll set my computer down and work or procrastinate. I’m a believer in organized clutter, and so what borders me is a collection of books — a mix of favorite reads and those tantalizing ones yet to be read, ripped movie tickets, half-filled notebooks, and a broken pen or two.
Through a bank of windows, I’m treated to a front row view of downtown. The vista is unique for me. Coming from a small town, the tall buildings, and especially their lights at night, serve as a waking dream. I like this space because it surrounds me with inspirations: the vibrancy of a city outside and cherished memories within. If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: It’s an old building, so I could seal up the windows just a bit more. The wind blows pretty cool this time of year.
