4 people die in recent traffic accidents

At least four people died in recent, separate accidents in Arkansas.

A 16-year-old boy died after a one-vehicle accident on an Arkansas highway, police said.

The crash happened shortly after 7:30 a.m. Friday on Arkansas 80 East in Scott County, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

The teen, whose name was not released, was traveling west on the highway in a 2002 Ford when he overcorrected in a curve in Danville, the report states.

The vehicle then struck a mound of dirt, causing it to roll over and hit a tree, according to the police report.

Conditions were clear and dry at the time of the crash, police said.

A 50-year-old man died

Friday afternoon after losing control of his motorcycle on an Arkansas highway, police said.

The crash happened around 12:50 p.m. as William G. Scott of McCrory drove a 2009 Victory motorcycle south on Arkansas 17 in Woodruff County, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

He lost control of his motorcycle about 2 miles north of Cotton Plant, and it traveled off the road and overturned, the report states.

Police said the roads were dry and weather conditions were clear at the time.

A 57-year-old Mississippi woman died after a truck struck the pickup she was riding in on Interstate 40 in east Arkansas, authorities said.

The crash happened around 11:20 a.m. Thursday near the 269 mile marker near West Memphis, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Authorities say Carla Jean Baker of Hickory Flat, Miss., was riding in a 2003 Dodge Ram that was stopped in the westbound lanes because of congested traffic.

According to the report, a westbound Kenworth truck then struck the rear of the pickup, causing a chain-reaction wreck with three other westbound vehicles: a 2004 Nissan Frontier, a 2014 Freightliner truck and a 2016 Volvo.

Baker suffered fatal injuries. Three other people were listed as being hurt, but the report didn’t indicate what vehicles they were in or the extent of their injuries.

Conditions at the time were cloudy and dry, police said.

A man died after the vehicle he was driving traveled off a northeast Arkansas road in rainy weather and struck a tree, state police said.

The crash happened around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 3600 block of Stoney Point Road in Randolph County, according to a preliminary report released Saturday.

Police say 28-year-old Ryan Koster of Marmaduke was traveling west on the road when he lost control in a turn.

Koster’s 2003 Dodge then struck a tree and landed off the side of Stoney Point Road, authorities said. He died as a result of the crash.

Police described travel conditions at the time as rainy and wet.
