UCLA professor set to talk about book
A University of California, Los Angeles School of Law professor will speak in Little Rock on Monday about his book, Constitutional Coup.
Jon Michaels will talk at 6 p.m. at Sturgis Hall, 1200 President Clinton Ave. A book signing will follow.
“Americans have a love-hate relationship with government,” a news release for the event said. “Rejecting bureaucracy — but not the goods and services the welfare state provides — Americans have demanded that government be made to run like a business. Hence today’s privatization revolution.”
His book concludes that separating the state from its public servants, practices and institutions hurts our Constitution and “threatens the health and stability of the Republic.”
The event is part of the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service’s speaker series.
Sustainability event hosts Oregon mayor
Portland, Ore., Mayor Ted Wheeler will be the main speaker at the annual Little Rock Sustainability Summit on Thursday.
The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Robinson Center, 426 W. Markham St.
It is an opportunity to learn, network and leverage sustainability efforts with others, organizers said. There’s an update each year on the various aspects of a 2020 Sustainability Roadmap, as well as the presentation of the Sustain the Rock Awards and a keynote address from a national speaker.
The city of Portland has been a leader in sustainable planning and practices. Wheeler last year announced the city’s commitment to using 100 percent clean energy by 2050.
