THE REV. DENIS BLAINE BAUM (Ret USAF Col), 81, of North Little Rock, passed away April 2, 2018, from pancreatic cancer. He was born in Toledo, Ohio, to James Edward and Freda Perrin Baum on March 5, 1937.

He grew up in Millbury, Ohio, attended Bowling Green State University for his undergradu­ate work in English Literature, and received his Bachelor of Divinity after three years at Oberlin College’s Graduate School of Theology in Oberlin, Ohio, and one year at The Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Mass.

He served as a Curate at St. James Episcopal Church in Painesvill­e, Ohio, before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force as a Chaplain. In his first assignment at Patrick AFB, Fla., one of his duties was to pray with the astronauts before their flight. As a Reservist, Denis took training at St. Elizabeth’s Mental Hospital in Washington, D.C., and went on to spend seven more years there mentoring other ministers in Religion and Mental Health. While in D.C., he earned a master’s in religion and Medicine at George Washington University.

Returning to active duty with the Air Force in 1975, he served as a Chaplain at Little Rock AFB, Ark., Sembach AFB, Germany, and Maxwell AFB, Ala.

Upon his retirement from the reserves, Denis returned to the Priesthood to serve as Rector at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Greenville, Ala., and Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Upon his second retirement from the private sector, Denis served many churches as Interim Priest, including three separate stints as visiting Priest at All Saints in Blackwell, England. He also served at St. James in Niceville, Fla., St. Andrews in Panama City, Fla., St. Albans in Stuttgart, Ark., Christ Episcopal Church in Little Rock, and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in North Little Rock. It was here in North Little Rock that Denis and Judith bought and renovated their home to be closer to his children and grandchild­ren.

He leaves behind his wife, Judith Holloway Baum; daughter, Beth Murry and husband David; sons, D. Blaine Baum and wife, Joanne and Matthew Baum; grandchild­ren, DJ Maxwell, Blake Murry, James Thomas Baum, Ava and Dylan Baum; and step-grandchild­ren, Alexandria Rogers, Joseph and Troy Fleming. In addition, he is survived by his siblings, James Baum and wife, Lois, Janice Ford and husband, Kenneth, Bob Baum and wife, Maryanne and Freda Baum and husband Tom Lagos. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one nephew, Kenneth Ford. Special thanks for the fabulous care Denis received at UAMS ICU, and to his devoted caretaker, JoAnn Hurst.

DANIEL BRYAN CLARK, SR., 42, of Little Rock, passed away April 3, 2018. Survivors include his children, Summer Grace Clark and Daniel Bryan Clark, Jr.; and his mother, Becky Clark. MARY ALICE COLE, 90, of Jacksonvil­le, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. She was born on October 18, 1927 in Jacksonvil­le, Ark., to Harvey and Mabel Lamb. Mary Alice was a lifelong member of First Baptist

Church in Jacksonvil­le, where she was very active, serving in many roles. She loved her church family and spoke often about how “blessed” she was. She could brighten any room with her laughter and smile. She is preceded in death by parents; her husband, Robert W. Cole; two brothers, Virgil Lamb and Marion Lamb; and two sisters, Ruth Lamb and Margaret Howard.

Mrs. Cole is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Johnny) Watson of Little Rock, Carolyn (Charles) Reed of Shelby, N.C.; and one son, David Cole of Jacksonvil­le; grandchild­ren, Kelly Shewmaker, David (Jackie) Shewmaker, Chad (Leah) Reed, Carole (Adam) Beebe, Dustin (Chrissy) Cole, and Devin (Carolyn) Cole; great-grandchild­ren, Dawson, Addison, and Carson Shewmaker; sister, JoAnn (Buster) Smith; as well as her many nieces, nephews, and friends.

SARA GWEN FLANNAGAN, age 70, died at her home in Maumelle, on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. Sara was born in Birmingham, Ala., on August 30, 1947. She obtained her B.S. degree in nursing at UAMS in 1968 and worked at both UAMS and St.

Vincent during her career. She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Jackie Yocom.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Dale Flannagan; brother, Bert of Boston, Mass.; two sisters, Evelyn of Springfiel­d, Mo., and Carol Kyle and husband, Glenn of Tyler, Texas; two daughters, Leslie May and husband Jeffrey of Conway, Ark., and Sandra Lapp and husband, Tucker of Redfield, Ark.; two granddaugh­ters, Sara Beth Lapp and Sadie Camille Lapp both of Redfield, Ark. Sara was a wonderful nurse and loved by all of her patients. She was a great mom and a loving wife and always made everybody laugh. She will be missed by all who knew her.

DORIS EMOGENE JOHNSON, affectiona­tely known as “Emo,” a true servant of the Lord, passed away on April 3, 2018. She was born in Union City, Ind., on December 26, 1925, to Ruben H. Hime and Edith Rickert

Hime. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 64 years, C.H. “Peck” Johnson and her brother Max Hime. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Diane Sneed, (Ken) of Baton Rouge, La., and Renee Cunningham of Bolder City, Nev., as well as her siblings Eugene Hime (Joan), Janet Weimer (Gene) and Marilyn Leeka; grandchild­ren Kimberly Deters (Bob), Jeremy Sneed (Nicole), Jimmy Cunningham and Kevin Cunningham; great-grandchild­ren Emily Deters, Allison Deters and Brandon Sneed, as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends.

Emo had a true servant’s heart and worked in many different capacities of ministry at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church in Little Rock, where she was a member for 70 years. During that time, she taught Primary Sunday School for over 30 years, was a member of the choir, and a founding member of the committee Hearts In Service, and was always willing to serve in any area needed.

She worked as a bookkeeper for J.C. Calloway for 50 years until her retirement, and then continued working part time at other CPA firms until she was in her 80s.
