- CHARLI WILLIAMS Please send tips for active recreation events to charlette.williams@arkansasonline.com

Come ready to shine at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Searcy’s Light Up the Streets Glo Run 5K on the courthouse square, 300 N. Spruce St. downtown.

This well lighted course will take the historic route through Arch and Center streets. Not ready for a 3.1-mile footrace? The not-so-serious runner can take a shorter 1K course and do it with the entire family.

Chip-timing will only be for the 5K runners.

Organizers urge everyone to wear a favorite glow-in-thedark outfit. Participants will be given a bracelet and necklace to match. Also, there will be glowin-the-dark gear for sale.

Entertainment will await runners at the finish line, with food, music, bounce houses and more. Top runners, three male and three female in various categories, will receive prizes.

Registration will be open the day of the race. Fee for the 5K is $30 (children and Arkansas State University students pay $25), but it’s $20 for the 1K.

Packet pickup will be available 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday at the Child Safety Center, 414 Rodgers Drive in Searcy.

All proceeds will benefit abused children at the Child Safety Center of White County.
