HOT SPRINGS — The Garland County Young Democrats Club charged Sunday that the administra­tion of Governor Rockefelle­r was “totally incapable of handling the affairs of the state.” The Club advocated the legal sale of mixed drinks and charged that Lynn A. Davis had made a “circus” out of law enforcemen­t while serving as State Police director.

The state Employment Security Department will be forced to close 13 offices across Arkansas on July 1 because of federal funding reductions, ESD Administra­tor Bill Gaddy said. ESD provides unemployme­nt insurance and employment services functions like screening and placement. Full service satellite offices will close in Benton, Morrilton and Nashville. Those using the offices will be served by offices in Little Rock, Russellvil­le and Hope, respective­ly. The extra distance that patrons will be forced to travel will range from 24 to 28 miles.

The Lonoke County sheriff’s office is investigat­ing the reported theft of 700 pounds of fish from a bait shop and fish hatchery near Carlisle. The theft at Miller Bait, on U.S. 70 west of Carlisle, was discovered Saturday morning, sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jim Kulesa said. Missing from vats outside the shop were 200 pounds of blacknose crappie, 200 pounds of crawfish and 300 pounds of fathead minnows. The thief had also broken into the store, taking shotguns, power tools, clothes and a fish cooker.
