He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 24 years, Ann Kit Peterson Brown, and his grandsons, Eric and Robert Brown. Left to celebrate his life are his beloved children, William David Brown and Laura Paige Brown Marroquin (Jesse Marroquin), and grandchild­ren, Ryan Elizabeth, Harrison Edward, Christophe­r David and Andrew Edward and his much loved step family, Susan Elizabeth (Tim Brown), William Robert Hicks (Quana), Debra Ann (Steve Pruitt), Scott Alan Esserine (Marie), Katrina Ann, Wayne Robert, William Ryan, Christophe­r Stephen, Cameron Ray, Samantha Nicole, Natalie Kay, Adam Scott, Jared Alan, Joseph Michael, Samuel Paul, 11 great-grandchild­ren and Cody the dog and Spunky the cat.

He was a graduate of Central High School in Little Rock and the University of Arkansas in Fayettevil­le and was a lifelong Razorback sports fan. He served his country in the Air National Guard and was stationed in Japan on active duty. His passions were family, golf and playing trivia with friends and family.

She was editor of the White River Journal, worked as executive secretary for M.R.D.D.S. (Arkansas Children’s Colony) and a member of the National Associatio­n of Realtors. Nothing brought her more pleasure than raising her family and always having them around her.

Marian is survived by her sons, Roger, Keith (Dianne) and Patrick Montgomery; granddaugh­ter, Catherine Montgomery; great-granddaugh­ter, Yazmine Kassees; step-grandson, Jeremy Humphreys; great-step-grandchild­ren, Cody and Alexa King, and Carys Humphreys; and siblings, Charles Neighbors, Mike Neighbors, and Margaret Cooper. She was also a foster parent to numerous children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Elmer Fay Montgomery; parents; brother, Newton Neighbors, Jr. and sister, Barbara Young.

Jasper was in the Navy for 22 years where he served on numerous ships and retired on the USS Harold E. Holt (DE 1074) and was awarded the Meritoriou­s Unit Commendati­on Medal. He was a devoted member of Pleasant Grove C.M.E. Church.

Jasper is survived by two daughters, Barbara Sampson-Robinson, Sharon D. Tramble (Kendall) both of Jacksonvil­le; brother, Thomas Sampson; six grandchild­ren: Christophe­r A. Austin, Tonya D. Faye was married to Virgil Skinner for 61 years. They were partners in life and loved each other dearly.

Faye loved to visit and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was an excellent cook and no one ever left her home hungry or in need. She loved gardening and had a green thumb. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Grand Internatio­nal Auxiliary, Brotherhoo­d of Locomotive Engineers. She worked as a bookkeeper and then a caregiver.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law Newton McNew and grandson Shane McNew. She is survived by her children, Janet McNew of Sherwood, Sidney Skinner (Kathy) of Lonoke and Sarah Rhoads of Lonoke; eight grandchild­ren; and nine great-grandchild­ren.

The family thanks the nurses and staff at Beebe Retirement Center. They cared for our mother and previously our grandmothe­r, Iona Murrell, through their long journeys with dementia. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rhodes was preceded in death by a brother, Walter “Dusty” Rhodes. HOT SPRINGS — Erick Edmisten, 58, of Hot Springs, passed away Sunday, May 13th, in a local hospital following a lengthy battle with pulmonary fibrosis and colon cancer.

He was born to Bill and Maxine Edmisten in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, where he attended school at Fort Buchanan. Later, Erick attended Arkansas State University, completing a degree in Personnel Management. During this time, he married Becky Fleming. He was blessed by, and very proud of his two beautiful daughters, Erica Lauren Jackson (Brett) of Greenbrier, and Emily Rose Partridge (Nick) of Maumelle, along with his precious and only grandchild Brycen Jackson.

Erick was a member of the Church of Christ. As his health allowed, he spent the past seven years in volunteer service, working with adults and young people in Garland County, after retiring from 27 years of work with the Department of the Treasury.

He was preceded in death by parents Bill and Maxine Edmisten, his grandparen­ts, Capitola Glazner and Charles and Ruth Edmisten, and his aunt Betty Tweedy.

Erick is survived by daughters Erica Jackson (Brett), Emily Partridge (Nick), grandson, Brycen Jackson, and former wife of 30 years, Becky Edmisten. Erick is also survived by his aunt Patricia Canada, his uncle Warren Edmisten, and cousins Bill, Bonnie, and Adam Stovall, as well as other family and numerous friends. He was born June 25, 1932, in Beaton, the last living child of Hermon M. Sheets and Lura Ida Allen Sheets. On April 21, 1956, he was married to Virginia Ann Tankersley who preceded him in death on October 27, 1992.

Troy was a United States Navy veteran, served in the Korean War and received the Korean War Service Medal. He attended the Philippi Church of Christ and retired from Reynolds Aluminum at Jones Mill after 35 years of service. Troy was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Glenwood Masonic Lodge #662, where he served as Worshipful Master, and was a member of three additional lodges, serving in this capacity. He also served as District Deputy Grand Master for the State of Arkansas, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Troy was an avid bee keeper, cattle farmer and very active in Hot Spring County political events. He enjoyed attending gospel singings and adored his grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren.

He is survived by his son, Jay Sheets of Bonnerdale; his twin daughters, Janice (Mike) Farr and Jeanette (Tom) Shepherd, all of Sheridan; six grandchild­ren; six great-grandchild­ren; his special cousin, Inez Runyan of Glenwood; three brothers-in-law, Roger Tankersley and George Hill, both of Pearcy, and Royace Braziel of Hot Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs, with Bro. Luke Henson and Bro. Mike Smith officiatin­g. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Honors Team and masonic rites will be provided by the Glenwood Masonic Lodge #662.

Winnie traveled to California right out of high school to look for work. World War II was raging during this time and the U.S. Navy had a great need for war ships, so Winnie supported the war effort by going to work at the Vallejo shipyard where she welded and joined the ranks of “Rosie the Riveters.” After the war, she enrolled in beauty school in Vallejo and received her cosmetolog­y license. Bill and Winnie were married January 22, 1947.

She was very close to her sisters and with six brothers, she learned to fight and dance. Winnie and brother, Omer, won 1st Place in the Jitterbug contest at an alumni gathering. She was a gracious hostess, welcoming family and friends at any time. She was a patient mother, but her children were no strangers to a dose of hickory tea. She was quick-witted, laughed often and had a big, beautiful smile.

PINE BLUFF — Fire Chief Ray Jacks, Pine Bluff Fire Department (Retired), 90, of Pine Bluff, died Tuesday,

Chief Jacks was reared and received his early education in Woodlawn, graduating from Woodlawn High School in 1949. He served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

In between World War II and Korea, Chief Jacks began his career with the Pine Bluff Fire Department September 1, 1949. After he returned home from Korea, Chief Jacks was promoted to Driver March 1, 1955. Chief Jacks became the first “Fire Marshall” of Pine Bluff in 1963, stressing fire prevention, education and public safety. He rose through the ranks of the department and became chief in August of 1972. Chief Jacks was inducted into the Arkansas State Firefighte­rs Hall of Fame June 24, 1995.

Chief Jacks was co-founder of the Jefferson County Mounted Patrol in 1960 and served as the First Captain. In conjunctio­n with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, this unit was a mainstay in crisis situations and could always be trusted to get the job done. He served as past President of the Arkansas Fire Chiefs Associatio­n, past President of the Southweste­rn Division Internatio­nal Associatio­n of Fire Chiefs and past Legislativ­e Chairman of the Arkansas Fire Chief’s Associatio­n.

He retired from the Pine Bluff Fire Department in 1999 after 50 years of exemplary service. Chief Jacks earned the 50 year Masonic Lodge recognitio­n for good standing and service in 2012.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Pine Bluff, past Director of the Jefferson County Chapter of the American Red Cross and President of the Calmer Hunting Club. Chief Jacks served on the Board of Directors of Pine Bluff National Bank (now Relyance Bank) from 1996 until December 31, 2014, when he became a Director Emeritus.

Chief Jacks was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Jacks; and sister, Genyce Burr. Survivors include his wife, Jane Ella Johnston Jacks, whom he married October 9, 1948, in Rison; two sons, Dr. David C.

Jacks (Donna Michelle) and Dr. Dennis W. Jacks (Liz), both of Pine Bluff; brother, Harvey Jacks; three sisters, Eloise Stewart of Mississipp­i, Dorothy Green of Pine Bluff and Katherine Moyers of Pine Bluff; eight grandchild­ren; and eight great-grandchild­ren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2018, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with Reverend Todd Anderson officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Rowell Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Robinson’s.
