COST OF three fees increasing at Henderson State.

-

Henderson State University students will pay more in the 2018-19 academic year than the year before.

The average undergraduate student who is an Arkansas resident and who takes 15 credit hours per semester will pay $8,436 in tuition and mandatory fees for the two-semester 2018-19 academic year.

Tuition won’t increase. It will remain at $221 per credit hour.

But three fees will increase — building repair and maintenance, which goes from $40 per semester to $50 per semester; band, which goes from 50 cents per credit hour to $1 per credit hour; and technology, which goes from $12 per credit hour to $15 per credit hour.

HSU, which has about 3,342 undergraduate students, is the fourth university to raise costs to students so far this month, as trustees approve rates and set budgets for the 2018-19 academic year.

The University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia and Arkansas Tech University in Russellville set rates for the 2018-19 academic year that reflect increased fees but held tuition flat.

The 2018-19 tuition and mandatory fee rates will be set for University of Arkansas campuses at a trustees meeting scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, and for Arkansas State University campuses on May 31.

In January, Gov. Asa Hutchinson asked universities in Arkansas to freeze tuition. University trustees have abided by that request so far. The governor did not request universities to hold fees.
