Crashes on roads in state kill 2 people

At least two people were killed in accidents on state roadways Friday and Saturday, according to preliminar­y reports from the Arkansas State Police.

A Little Rock man died and two others were injured in a one-vehicle crash in Jefferson County on Saturday morning, authoritie­s said.

A 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 32-year-old Jardun Terry of Little Rock, was southbound on U.S. 65 north of Tamo when the sport utility vehicle left the road and overturned about 8:50 a.m., according to a state police report.

Terry and passenger Detric Levelle Bryant, 33, of Little Rock were listed as hurt, though the report did not detail the extent of their injuries.

Another passenger, Michael Laron Verser, 35, of Little Rock, was killed, state police said.

The report said one passenger was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, but it did not specify which one.

On Friday, a Mississipp­i man died after losing control of his vehicle in West Memphis, authoritie­s said.

Authur Woodard, 35, of Holly Springs, Miss., was driving a 2003 Internatio­nal truck south on Interstate 55 when he lost control of the vehicle about 5 p.m., according to a state police report.

The truck then struck a concrete bridge wall near the 1 mile marker on I-55, killing Woodard, the report said.

The weather was clear and roads were dry at the time of both crashes, state police reported.
