BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — MSgt Arden Powell Andrews, 81 retired USAF passed away April 27, 2018 in Birmingham, Ala. He was predecease­d by his father Alvin Forrest Andrews and his sister Ada Patricia Andrews.

His military career of 22+ years included being in an Atlas Missile silo during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 and serving in the Vietnam War. His last assignment was managing the implementa­tion of the communicat­ions systems in the new 747s being brought into the Presidenti­al fleet in the mid-1970s. He retired one more time after a 20+ year career for the State of Arkansas.

He is survived by his mother Mary Charlotte Blount, age 105; his son Keith Andrews (Nancy); two daughters Mary Lowe (John) and Julie Andrews; five grandchild­ren, and eight great-grandchild­ren.

His ashes will be laid to rest with a military honor ceremony at 12 noon Friday May 25, 2018 in the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery located at 1501 Maryland Ave West, NLR, Ark., 35216. With a celebratio­n of life for family and friends following at the US Pizza Company, 4001 McCain Park, NLR, Ark., 35216, 1 until 4 pm.

–––––❖––––– COLUMBUS, Ohio — Claude Victor Nicholson, 69 transition­ed May 15, 2018.

Claude was born December 16, 1948 in Dermott, Ark., to the late Johnnie and Josephine Nicholson, he was a graduate of Chicot County High School, University of Arkansas Pine Bluff (AM&N). Graduate of Howard Law School. He served in the US Army, during the Vietnam War 1970-1972 serving as a Military Police. Claude served as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio in the Medicaid Fraud Division. He was a member of The Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.

Claude was preceded in death by his parents, maternal and paternal grandparen­ts; sisters Janice Morris and Lola Bailey. He is survived by son Carlos Jasper (Audrey) North Little Rock; grandchild­ren: Kayla Hurst, Benton Harbor, Mich., Alana Jasper, Nahtali Horton, Camryn Bland, Julien Jasper, Zoe Holland, Madison Jasper, Torian Jasper; brothers: James Nicholson, Monticello, Ark., Pastors Fred Nicholson (George Ann), Joseph Carlock, Hot Springs, Ark., Louis Carlock (Julia); sisters: Erma Bayley (Allan), Ella Anderson, Little Rock, Ark., Mildred Tyler, Dermott, Ark.; special Aunt Mattie Parker, Jonesboro, Ga.; nieces, nephews, cousins. He was married to Dr. Barbara Nicholson, they have remained friends until his death.

The Family will remember Claude for his witty sense of humor and always as an encourager to the younger generation to set high goals, he was an avid reader and loved to travel. He had started taking trips that involved his Grandchild­ren and their Grandmothe­r. Claude really enjoyed this Family time. He always enjoyed coming to the Family Reunion each year. He loved teasing the younger nephews always in a manner that’s always funny. Claude will be deeply and sadly missed by ALL of us. He had a compassion­ate side that always wanted to make sure his siblings were ok and doing well. God has picked a beautiful flower, Gardenia whose scent we will always be able to smell.

–––––❖––––– CONROE, Texas — Christophe­r R. Griffin: May 21, 1981 to May 5, 2018. Chris died in a motor vehicle accident on May 5, 2018. He lived in Clearwater, Fla., area for nearly 20 years.

Brown and Clayton Shane Griffin. He had numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

During his life in Florida he excelled as a top salesman in energy. He worked for three years at Cross Fit and just reached his goals through commitment and perseveran­ce.

He was known by many as a “best friend,” “brother” and “godfather.” He leaves behind a legacy of humility, confidence, love for life and a “peacemaker,” who was there for all who knew him. Services were held last weekend to celebrate the life of Chris Griffin by those who loved him in Clearwater and Texarkana. For those who knew and loved Chris now have a empty place in their hearts where he is sorely missed.
