The state Senate killed the Rockefeller administration’s mixed drink bill decisively Wednesday. Senator Q. Byrum Hurst of Hot Springs, the sponsor of SB 17, afterward put much of the blame for the defeat on Governor Rockefeller. The court opinion written by Justice Robert L. Brown upheld the capital-murder conviction of Michael B. Daniels in the stabbing death of James Williams in a Warren gas station in January 2006. But the court’s 6-2 decision also reversed Daniels’ aggravated-robbery and capital-felony murder convictions, ordering further proceedings.
