I’ve not written to you in several years but after Thursday, I couldn’t resist. I liked Mr. Jack Albert’s suggestion to stop playing the national anthem at professional sports events. I’ve been there and he and Mr. Bill Farrell’s comments seem right on—just stop playing at these events. “Morals and motives” comments from Mr. Reg Edwards seem to question my morals and motives since I did vote for and still support our president. I believe the country did say “enough” in November of 2016, and I believe the same group plus some will verify that vote in 2020. The “breath of fresh air” suggestion from Ms. Carol Bone suggesting changes in news reporting and coverage is a great suggestion; hardly new, however. I’d love the investigative journalism to be left to the tabloids and let those who live for that stuff buy at the checkout stand.

The op-ed piece declaring “poverty isn’t a crime” is pretty tame. Unfortunately, ignorance is not a crime either. But poor choices always have consequences. I really liked Mr. Walter Williams’ column, “Capitalism vs. socialism.” Socialism sounds great. Has always sounded great and will probably always continue to sound great to the uninformed. “Thunder from the east” seems to reinforce the importance of dialogue. Just keep the conversation going, makes no difference if it’s trade or nukes, just keep talking. Finally, your guest writer’s (Ms. Amber Chelette) concerns about kids’ weight seem to fit well in the announcement about revising state educational standards, except there is no mention of fitness standards anywhere in old or new.

Finally for Mr. Brummett. Wonder how he got so anti-conservative. Can’t wait to see who will take his place. JERRY GATLING
