Camp offers summer learning, fun

BEEBE — Arkansas State University-Beebe’s Vanguard Discovery Camp will offer six weeks of summer learning and fun, starting in June.

The Vanguard Discovery Camp is a series of STEMrelate­d courses designed for students entering fourth through eighth grades. Session topics include exploratio­n of medical profession­s, Lego Robotics, developing a smartphone applicatio­n and a drone piloting class.

Vanguard Discovery Camp will be offered for two weeklong sessions at each ASU-Beebe campus: Heber Springs, Searcy and Beebe.

The first session will be June 4-8 at the ASU-Beebe Heber Springs campus. The morning class will feature Forensics from 8 to noon. The afternoon class, from 1-5, will feature Black Rocket: Code Breakers.

The second session at the Heber Springs campus will be June 11-15. The morning class will be Junior Naturalist, from 8 to noon. The afternoon class will feature the Black Rocket: Minecraft Modders from 1-5.

The second iteration of the Vanguard Discovery Camp will be held at the ASU-Beebe Searcy campus June 18-22. The morning class is designated as PULSE Medical Week and will be from 8 to noon. This session will introduce students to the technology and skills used in a variety of medical profession­s. The afternoon class, from 1-5, will feature Black Rocket: App Attack.

The second week at the ASU-Beebe Searcy campus will be July 9-13. The morning class will feature Lego Robotics from 8 to noon. The afternoon class includes Black Rocket: Minecraft Designers from 1-5.

July 16-20, the Vanguard Discovery Camp moves to the Beebe campus for its first week in Beebe. Separate sessions of Lego Robotics and Drone Technology will be offered from 8 a.m. to noon. The drone class is presented in partnershi­p with Beebe High School. The afternoon segment will feature Black Rocket: Code Breakers from 1-5.

The second session at the Beebe campus will run from July 23-27. The morning class will be Junior Naturalist from 8 to noon. The afternoon class will feature Minecraft Modders from 1-5 .

Vanguard Discovery Camp class sessions are $80 each, except for Drone Technology, which is $100. Online and mobile registrati­ons are open and will remain open through the second day of each session.
