SLIM PICKINGS
WHAT: Southern Breeze Cold Brew Tea
STATS: One tea bag contains zero calories, no more than 1 carbohydrate gram and zero fat, sugar, protein and fiber grams. We bought them online — $3.75 for a box of 20 single-serve tea bags — at southernbreezesweettea.com
THE SKINNY: There are two things that make Southern Breeze
Cold Brew sweet teas unique.
The bags of genuine black tea leaves are pre-sweetened (with sucralose — no sugar). And they brew in cold water — one bag per 8 ounces of water — in five minutes.
The caffeinated calorie-free Cold Brew flavors include Original, a very subdued almost undetectable Peach, a fruity Raspberry, and our refreshing favorite, the lively Half & Half, which is half tea, half lemonade. Make no mistake, these are sweet teas, and sucralose, which is sweeter than sugar, does have a touch of aftertaste.
Southern Breeze also sells Family Size tea bags — $3.95 for 16 bags — and in an additional Decaf option, but note they are not coldbrew and require boiling water to prepare.
Southern Breeze teas are sold in stores, but after two unsuccessful visits to local supermarkets listed under the site’s store locator feature, we opted to order online.
That one’s first order ships free with code FREESHIPPING (psst, there are other deals under the “Savings” link) makes getting Southern Breeze a breeze.
