CLAY DEAN HAMILTON, 85, of Little Rock, died Saturday night, June 30, 2018 in the VA Hospital.

He was born

April 28, 1933 in

Norris, Oklahoma. Clay grew up in eastern Oklahoma and California’s San

Joaquin Valley.

He dropped out of school and left home at age 17 to join the U.S.

Navy, serving on the aircraft carrier USS Philippine

Sea during the

Korean War. He joined the U.S.

Air Force in the early 1950s soon after completing his Navy service.

High scores on aptitude tests placed Clay in the Air Force’s data processing group where he learned to program IBM’s punched-card tabulating machines, the forerunner of large mainframe computers.

He left the Air Force in the early 1960s, returning to live briefly in California. Soon, though, Clay and his brother Archie both bought farms and moved their families to what was then rural Round Mountain, just outside of Conway, Arkansas. The two brothers had married sisters, and none of them had ever lived in Arkansas. Clay found work in Little Rock as data processing manager for the company that was to become Affiliated Foods. He led the organization’s transition from tabulating machines to an IBM mainframe computer.

Clay was an entrepreneur. He struck a deal with his employer to lease time on the company’s large computer when it was idle at night, and he began selling automated office services to local businesses that were manually producing payrolls, bills, A/P checks, inventories and financial statements. Clay was both a talented computer programmer and a gifted salesman. He soon resigned his position with Affiliated Foods and literally worked day and night to make his new business a success. Within a few years, he sold this business to Systematics Inc. and moved on to other projects. During his life, Clay launched a number of new enterprises. Several of them failed, but some were successful, including his last. In his late seventies, he operated a computer sales and repair business from a wheelchair in Little Rock’s Landmark community.

Clay is survived by his wife of 19 years, Wilma Hamilton of Little Rock, Arkansas. Surviving children are Ana Hamilton of San Diego, California; Clay Hamilton Jr. of Sherwood, Arkansas; Debbie Funderburg of Clovis, California; Elizabeth Wisener of Madera, California; Aretta Gordish of Bethel, Connecticut; and John Hamilton of Madera, California. Survivors also include a sister, Jean Porter of Sherwood, Arkansas; a brother, Lynn Hamilton of Little Rock; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family thanks the doctors, nurses and staff of Little Rock’s VA hospital for their attentive care and intensive treatment during the last six years of Clay’s life. He will be buried near his brother, Archie, in the Round Mountain Community Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

–––––❖––––– WILLIAM “BILL” ANDREW HOOKS, 43, of Hensley passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018. He was born to the late Charles and Donna Hooks in Little Rock, Thursday, March 27, 1975. Bill enjoyed

hunting, fishing, gardening, and all things outdoors. He was a very hard worker and spent his working years as a roofer.

Gone before him were his parents and his sister, Rita Marks. Those remaining to cherish his memory include his loving son, Cody Shadden (Alyssa); 16 brothers and sisters: Pat Hooks, Tommy Hooks (Bonnie), Donna “Sissy” Stephenson, Linda Johnson (Ferrell), Margie Worlow (Clay), Susie Hooks, Mary Palmer (Ken), Mike Hooks, Jane Hooks, Joan Crews, D.D. Garner (Rusty), John Hooks, Karen Hooks, Sharon Hooks, Joe Hooks (Helen), and Chris Hooks; and a host of other family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, July 9, 2018 at Dial and Dudley Funeral Home, 4212 Hwy. 5 North, Bryant, Arkansas 72022; (501) 847-9099. Visitation will begin at noon. To sign the online guestbook, visit www. dialanddudleyfuneralhome.com.

–––––❖––––– RONALD HOUSE, 71, of Little Rock passed on July 5, 2018. He is survived by sister, Iva Zimmerman of Uvalde, Texas. Services entrusted to Gunn Funeral Home, 4323 West 29th Street, Little Rock, Ark.

–––––❖––––– DENNIS RAY KORDSMEIER (71) of Little Rock took his last breath on July 4, 2018 and was surrounded by the loving embrace of friends and family until his final hours. Dennis will be remembered by his wife

Sara of 43 years, son Nolan (Suzanne), daughter

Angie (David), grandsons Davis and Tyler, siblings Bud, Patti, Sharon, Valerie, and many loved ones who will always reflect upon his love, laughter, and bravely passionate heart. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Raphael and Herman, and brother Kenneth of Morrilton.

Dennis’ unsurpassed intelligence and quest for knowledge took him through many pathways in his life’s journey. He was raised in Morrilton, Ark., and, after extensive study in the Catholic seminary during his youth, proudly served in the Navy during the Vietnam War where he specialized as a Russian linguist. He continued his service to our country through his work with the NSA where he used his gifts of creativity and intelligence. Dennis devoted himself to providing a prosperous life for his wife and children and this selfless dedication and concern for his family remained until his final hours. It was these personal values that led him through a successful career in finance with GMAC and Toyota World Omni. His commitment to his work for the sake of his family’s welfare will always be remembered with eternal gratitude. When asked during his last week with us about his greatest accomplishment, Dennis answered immediately, “my children Angie and Nolan are my pride and joy.”

Dennis was an avid golfer and excellent fisherman but most of all treasured spending time with his children, playing cards, and using his own special brand of humor to set any problem right. For those who knew Dennis best, it will always be his witty witticisms, love for language, knowledge of world affairs, and resilience that captured his essence. His love for the outdoors and adventure has taken Dennis through mountains, oceans, lakes, and rivers and in his last days he made his peace with God. His siblings, children, grandchildren, and devoted wife will always remember him with love, laughter, and a tender heart. We know Dennis will always be smiling and looking upon us with confidence, pride, and the warm light of eternal love.

The family would like to thank Dr. Barry Ford and Arkansas Hospice for their excellent care the past several months. We are also grateful for the many caring friends who provided love and support along the way. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to A Natural State Funeral Service in Jacksonville, Ark. Online guest book available at www.anaturalstatefuneralservice.com.

In memory of R. WINGFIELD MARTIN, cattleman, realtor, mentor, friend. Born

Nov. 12, 1929, died May 14,

2018. Wingfield

Martin had two passions in life: real estate and animals. He loved animals of all kinds: dogs, burros, horses, and especially cattle. He was particularly fond of Herefords. Always curious, he rarely missed an opportunity to take a field trip to see what ranchers in other parts of the country and Canada were doing in their operations.

His passion for animals led him to serve as a public member of the Veterinarian’s Board for 20 years. He was a vocal member who was not afraid to stand up for what he thought was the right thing to do.

Wingfield always credited his mother for igniting his passion for real estate. He believed in first listening and understanding a client’s needs and then working tirelessly to find the perfect piece of land for his buyer or the best buyer if he were representing the seller.

He would physically walk every inch of a prospective piece of property, but would also meticulously collect topo maps, surveys, and all other information on a piece of property. While meticulous in gathering information, his office organizational methods were beyond most mortals (some would consider it hoarding), however, like a magician pulling a rabbit out of the hat, Wingfield had the uncanny ability to reach his hand in the pile of papers and come up with the exact survey or other documents he needed. Even in the final hours of his life, Wingfield was thinking and talking about real estate.

He helped many people get into the real estate and cattle businesses over the years. He was a patient and friendly mentor. Wingfield was always eager to lend a hand, offer some sage advice or make an introduction (he seemed to know everyone) to anyone who needed it.

He valued hard work, integrity and thoughtfulness and his life exemplified these values. R. Wingfield Martin, friend, mentor, realtor, and cattleman, you will be missed, but your passions and values will live on through those whose lives you have touched.

Mr. Martin also served the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Foundation. First donating his time and expertise to the process of purchasing the current home of the ACF/ACA. Then as Treasurer of the Board, he was a stoic guardian of the Foundation Finances. His passion for the Learning Center located in the ACF/ACA Building was never-ending even after he left the ACF Board. He was a true supporter of the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Foundation.

The business associates and friends of Wingfield Martin have established a memorial scholarship fund with the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Foundation. The foundation is a 501(c) 3 organization. Please mail your memorial gift to: Arkansas Cattleman’s Foundation, c/o Jimmy Jennings, Treasurer, P.O. Box 56043, Little Rock, Ark. 72215.

NEVA JANE ROSS, of Little Rock, passed away July 5, 2018. She was born in Hobart,

Okla., just prior to the dust bowl and Great Depression. She lost her mother to appendicitis at the tender age of two and from that point was essentially raised by her six older siblings. She assembled airplanes in Wichita, Kan., during World War II at the age of 17 and later became an accountant for the Army Corps of Engineers. She married James (“Pappy”) Ross and raised three children: Charlotte, Ronnie and Connie.

–––––❖––––– THEODORE CHARLES (TED) TREADWAY, III, of Little Rock died Wednesday, July 4, 2018. Ted was born in Little Rock on February 2, 1940, the son of Theodore Charles (Hunk) Treadway, Jr., and Margaret Winston Treadway. Ted grew up in Little Rock, graduating from Little Rock Central High School in 1958. In 1963, he graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, with a Bachelor of Science Business Administration with a degree in marketing and finance. Ted was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

Ted is preceded in death by his parents Theodore Charles (Hunk) Treadway, Jr., and Margaret Carroll (Winnie) Winston Treadway, his sister Carroll Treadway Hout, and his son Winston Theodore Treadway, who died in 2005 at the age of 38. Ted’s grandparents were Alice Grace Rae and Theodore Charles (Theo) Treadway, Sr. and Daisy Carroll and Ben Winston. Ted is survived by his wife, Lou Ellen East Treadway and his daughters Ellen East Treadway Engelke, Ph.D., (Ben) of Ozark, and Amy Nicol Treadway Iacaboni of Little Rock. He is also survived by his faithful companion, Daisy Grace, a clumber spaniel, who is named after his favorite grandmothers.

Ted and Lou Ellen met at Forest Park Elementary School at the age of nine and attended the same schools over the years. Ted and Lou Ellen were married on August 18, 1962, and they enjoyed a loving marriage with three adoring children. They remained best friends throughout his seventy-eight year life.

Ted was fourth generation owner and President of Treadway Electric Company, Inc., from 1962 until his retirement in 2005, when the company celebrated its 100th anniversary. Treadway Electric was founded in 1905 by Leo Treadway and his sons Theo and William. Theo and William were professors of electrical engineering at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, when their father called them home to Little Rock to open a new business, which became the leader in the electrification of Arkansas. During his fifty-year career at Treadway Electric, Ted worked diligently to grow and improve the electrical industry in Arkansas. Ted was the co-founder and President of the Electrical League of Arkansas, Chair of the Southern Region of the National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED), and national Vice President of NAED. In addition, Ted was co-founder and Chair of the Southern Independent Electrical Distributors (SIED), a buying cooperative for independent electrical distributors in the south. As the industry grew, Ted was active in the merging of SIED and the other United States cooperatives, which became The Independent Electrical Distributor (TIED), later rebranded as IMARK. Ted received numerous honors from electrical product manufacturers, and in 2005, he received the highest electrical industry award, the Arthur W. Hooper Award for Outstanding Electrical Distribution.

Ted was very active in the Little Rock community. He was a member of Rotary Club of Little Rock, Club 99, for over 30 years. Ted was a leader of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 27, where his son, Winston, earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and together, they received the honor of Order of the Arrow. He also supported the Girl Scout troops of daughters, Ellen and Amy, in their camping and canoeing trips.

Ted was especially proud of his work with the Little Rock Sewer Commission, now called Little Rock Water Reclamation Authority, where he served on the board for 12 years, including a term as Board Chair. Ted was an avid supporter of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, including the Psychiatric Research Institute, Family Home, Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, where his wife, Lou Ellen, has volunteered over 30 years. Ted served as a board member of the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging. In addition, Ted was an active supporter of the Little Rock Community Mental Health Center and the Kathleen Peek Apartments. After retirement, Ted volunteered at Stew Pot, located at the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Little Rock.

Ted was a fourth generation and lifetime member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Little Rock. He served his church community in a variety of leadership roles, including vestry member, Junior Warden, Sunday School teacher for thirty years, Superintendent of Sunday School and Board Member of the Cathedral School. His most enjoyable times working with the Church were outings to the Treadway Farm with the EYC Youth Ministry and Sunday School groups for picnics and scavenger hunts.

Ted’s happiest times were spent with his family and friends. He went duck hunting as a child with his father at Pin Oak Duck Club in DeWitt, Ark., and later he enjoyed hunting with his three children at Pin Oak. With his family and friends, Ted canoed the Buffalo River and fished at Lake Hamilton. Ted photographed nature, caught butterflies at Greers Ferry Lake, incubated duck eggs with his young children, and most recently, he loved watching and feeding the wild birds at the Little Red River in Heber Springs. Ted was a member of the Master Gardener program, with a natural ability to grow beautiful plants. Truly, Ted had a passion for animals, including dogs, cats, guinea hens, snakes and lizards, gerbils, and insects. Many of his friends thought of Ted as an amateur stand-up comedian, who was most animated telling stories of his adventures. Ted … what a good man … entrepreneur, friend, family man, and storyteller.

A funeral service to celebrate Ted’s life will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral on Monday, July 9 at 11 a.m. Immediately after the interment of Ted’s ashes in Treadway Garden, the family will receive friends at a reception in Morrison Hall. HOT SPRINGS — Leighton Millard, July 28, 1930 – July 5, 2018

Irvin Leighton Millard, MD – From his children, Roy, Mary, and Michael: Thank you. We are who we are because of our father. He gave each of us a good, solid, stable, and loving home. He loved and respected his family; and we loved and respected him in turn. His was a life lived to the fullest, with experiences we, his children, have only recently come to fully appreciate. The son of a prominent Russellville doctor, our dad graduated from UAMS, went to Southern California for his residency, and returned to Arkansas to practice the art of orthopedic medicine as a partner in the Little Rock Orthopedic Clinic. Before any of that, however, he found the woman who would become his life-long wife and partner, Sherrill Lou Millard. For sixty-six years, they loved each other, and they loved their family. Together, they provided for us, they taught us, they loved us, and they fostered in us a desire to know God and to always do what is right because it is the right thing to do. As children, we never lacked what we needed; we frequently had most of what we wanted; and our father made sure we learned the importance of knowing what was truly important in life.

Leighton is preceded in death by his wife of sixty-six years, Sherrill Lou Hooper Millard; his father, Roy I. Millard, MD; and his mother, Mildred Scott Millard. Leighton is survived by his children, Roy Leighton Millard and his wife Judy Geisler Millard; Mary Jennifer Millard; and Michael Wayne Millard and his wife Samantha Deviney Millard; his grandchildren, David, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Samantha, Michael, Wil, Miles, Grace and Emma; his great-grandchildren, Joshua, Elijah, Samuel, Benjamin, Kathryn, Jennifer, Sariah, Charlotte, Felix, Allison, Aurora, Olivia, James, Thor and Owen.

May his soul and the souls of all the departed, through the love and grace of God, rest in peace.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Gross Funeral Home Chapel with Father Michael Millard officiating. Memorials may be made to Garland County Humane Society, 1249 Ault Loop, Lonsdale, Ark., 72087.

CLEMMONS, N.C. — John Wesley Garner, 80, formerly of North Little Rock passed away on Monday, June

4th, 2018 due to heart failure after being in the hospital in

North Carolina.

Mr. Garner, known to many as John “Little

John” Garner, was born in the township of Big Rock. He was a graduate of Little Rock Central High School, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and student at Little Rock University. Mr. Garner became popular in the 1970’s due to his appearances in commercials representing Garner-Browne furniture. Garner later owned Capri Cleaners out of Sherwood with his son Mark before retiring. In retirement, always wanting to stay active, in 2000 he took a part-time position as Director for the Chamber of Commerce of Lonoke, Ark. It gave him a chance to work with the local community, to work with community and state leaders, and to grow the awareness of opportunities that Lonoke, Arkansas had to offer. He always said his greatest accomplishments as a businessman came during the 16 years he spent working part-time in Lonoke.

Mr. Garner moved his family to the Cabot area in 1978 with his wife Judy. They raised and graduated three boys from Cabot High School before moving back to Sherwood. Mr. Garner loved sports and shared that love by sponsoring and coaching youth sports. –––––❖––––– BEAUMONT, Texas — Our beloved mother, Madelyn Grace Bottorff Warrick, passed away peacefully on

July 1 in Beaumont, Texas. Madelyn was born on June 5,

1928, in St. Louis, Mo., to Dr.

M.K. Bottorff and Elizabeth McGehee Bottorff. After her father completed his residency in St. Louis, the family moved to Lake Village, Arkansas. At the age of 16 Madelyn graduated valedictorian from Lakeside High School and attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where she

was a member of Chi Omega fraternity. Chi Omega continued to be dear to her heart throughout her lifetime and she was thrilled to pass this legacy on to her daughter and granddaughter.

In 1947, she married Zeke Warrick during spring break of his senior year at Ole Miss. They lived in “Miss Dolly Faulkner’s” boarding house in Oxford until his graduation in the spring. She always laughed he graduated only because she wrote his senior paper for him. There was always a bit of rivalry during football season at our house. After graduation they moved to McGehee, Arkansas, where Zeke joined the family business. This was their home where they would spend their life together and raise their children.

Madelyn and Zeke loved to travel and were fortunate to have visited many different countries. He was the official photographer. She was the planner and kept meticulous notes of each place they visited. They made many friends throughout their travels and continued to correspond with them. Madelyn was an avid reader and a beautiful writer. These gifts she shared with her children and grandchildren. She loved gardening and tending to her yard. Her love of animals, especially birds, was a great passion. Her church, First Presbyterian, was such an important part of her life and she served it in many different capacities.

Madelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Lester Warrick Jr. “Zeke”, sister, Sue Schwartz, brother, Dr. Mel Bottorff, and grandson, Alan Bradley Warrick. She is survived by her son, Alan F. Warrick and his wife Mary Elizabeth “Boots” of Little Rock, Arkansas, daughter, Lynn Burnside and her husband Bruce of Beaumont, Texas, granddaughter, Sara Brooke and her husband Terry Hallemann of Beaumont, Texas, grandson, Blair Burnside and his wife Margaret of Houston, Texas, great-grandchildren, Hays and Mary Margaret Burnside of Houston, Texas, and Connor and Keegan Warrick of Manila, Arkansas. Her family was her greatest happiness in life. Madelyn was a true southern lady who will be remembered for her positive attitude, wise counsel and kindness to all. She epitomized her middle name – Grace.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to all of her caregivers at Pelican Bay Assisted Living where she resided for the past three years and to Hospice Plus for making her final days comfortable and peaceful.

Cremation arrangements are being handled under the direction of Broussard’s Mortuary, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont, Texas.

A memorial service will follow at a later date with burial in McGehee, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 302 North 4th St., McGehee, Arkansas 71654 or to The Alzheimer’s Association, 700 North St., Suite M, Beaumont, Texas 77701.
