At least four people died — three in one accident — on state highways over the weekend.

Three people were killed in a crash Sunday in northeast Arkansas, state police said.

The single-vehicle wreck happened shortly after 1:10 a.m. as 58-year-old Charles Massey was driving a Chevrolet Cruze north on Arkansas 77 in Marion, according to a preliminary report.

Police say the car left the highway in Crittenden County and “made contact with a sign” before striking a tree.

Massey, a Marion resident, died as a result of the crash, the report stated. Also killed were passengers Ray Smith, 59, of West Memphis and Calvin Beaugard, 63, of Sunset.

Authorities said the weather was clear and roads dry at the time of the overnight crash.

The crash happened around 9:35 p.m. on Arkansas 221 about 7 miles north of the Carroll County town of Berryville, according to a preliminary report.

Police say Berryville resident Darold L. Johnson crossed the highway’s centerline in his northbound Chevrolet and struck another Chevrolet traveling south.

Johnson suffered fatal injuries as a result of the wreck, according to authorities. The southbound vehicle’s driver, 24-year-old Mason Binham of Harrison, and two young passengers in his Chevrolet were injured.
