FRIDAY Free Bard

A cast of local actors and artists are taking part in Acansa Arts Festival’s first Free Shakespear­e production, William Shakespear­e’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, 6:30 p.m. Friday-Sunday at the Clinton Presidenti­al Center Amaphithea­ter, 1200 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock, overlookin­g the Arkansas River and Rock Island Bridge. Provide your own blanket and/or pillows, picnic meals, bug spray and sunblock; concession­s will be available. Admission is free; they’ll accept donations for the Arkansas Repertory Theatre. SATURDAY ‘Shady Characters’

Rand Retzolff, owner of horticultu­ral consulting firm Grand Designs, will share “the ultimate direction for shade gardens” in a talk titled “Shady Characters,” 9 a.m. Saturday at Mount Holly Cemetery, 1200 S. Broadway, Little Rock, part of the Downtown Dames’ Mount Holly Garden Series of gardening lectures. Admission is by suggested donation of $5 benefiting projects at the cemetery; the Downtown Dames will provide refreshmen­ts and door prizes. Patrons should provide their own lawn chairs. ETC. ‘Science for All’

In its new “Science for All” program, the Museum of Discovery, 500 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock, is offering $2 admission to families who receive Supplement­al Nutritiona­l Assistance Program benefits. Show an EBT card and a valid state-issued ID at the front desk to receive $2 general admission for the card holder and five additional people. (Regular museum admission is $10, $8 for children 1-12.)

Bank of America is helping offset the cost of the program. The museum is also partnering with the Arkansas Department of Human Services, the Arkansas Food Bank and other food banks around the state, Goodwill and other organizati­ons that work with low-income Arkansans. Museum hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Call (501) 396-7050.

“Science for All” is the museum’s adaptation of the Museums for All program, a joint initiative of the Associatio­n of Children’s Museums and the Institute for Museum and Library Services, with more than 270 participat­ing museums in the United States.
