SCL Con coming to Benton library

-

BENTON — The Saline County Library will host a one-day comic con for all ages called SCL Con from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. There is no entry cost. Activities will include movies, games and a costume contest.

The Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library will be transformed into a wonderland of comic and superhero fun. In the Meeting Room, the youth Harry Potter trivia event will start at 10:30 a.m., followed by adult fan trivia at 11:30 a.m. There can be four people per team with a maximum of 10 teams per game, and the winning teams will receive a prize. To keep the event as fair as possible, no cellphones will be allowed, and doors will close five minutes before each game. When trivia is over, a superhero movie will be shown in the meeting room. Hot dogs and popcorn will be served outside starting at noon.

For those who like to shop, vendors will be upstairs near the computer lab with local artists and crafters from around Saline County selling their creations. There will be plenty to choose from, including Legos and comics. Payment methods will vary with vendors. Some will allow cash only.

Younger kids are likely to enjoy the Super Hero Training Camp obstacle course. Those who like art can check out the various art stations downstairs, including make-a-mask and a secret-code-writing station. Afterward, participants can grab a blank comic book and create a masterpiece. Marty Boone, the Balloon Man, will make superhero creations out of balloons, and he will hand them out, starting at noon. ArkLUG will be have an all-day Lego exhibit where visitors can add a piece to the creation.

At noon, viewers can be the first to see how the superheroes defeat all of the enemies they have made at Super Camp.

The best part of any comic con is the chance for participants to dress up in their favorite costume and parade around the library. They can make a costume, buy one from a store or wear an old Halloween costume, then join the costume contest at 1 p.m. in the Meeting Room. There will be winners for the best superhero, best villain, best original character and more. Library staff members will be in costume, too.
