MINUTE WITH A LIBRARIAN

-

Q. How do you start your day? A. My usual workday begins with running the holds list and pulling books for patrons who have put items on hold to be picked up at Conway or one of our other five branches. Q. What is your best workday? A. Helping our patrons find the information they need, whether that is a telephone number to a government agency that will assist them or a newspaper article from our archives on microfilm. Q. What is your worst workday? A. When I cannot find the information a patron needs, or I find very little information to answer their reference questions. Q. Why I love working for my business: A. The people. I love helping all of our patrons, and I love working with my co-workers. We really have a wonderful culture at the library, and I believe our patrons see and feel our willingness to put them first. Q. What are your company’s best attributes? A. The welcoming atmosphere and our willingness to help everyone who walks through our doors. Q. What is one thing people don’t know about the company you work for? A. The library is not just a place to find books. Libraries are information hubs for the communities we serve. Oh, and we have a really cool 3-D printer that patrons can use. Q. What is your typical workday in a nutshell? A. A typical day consists of making sure our holds system is running smoothly so that our patrons receive these items in a timely fashion and answering any reference questions our patrons might need answered. Q. If you weren’t in this business, you would be: A. That is a tough one. I never saw myself as a librarian until I started working for the Faulkner County Libraries system. I fell in love with working with the public and providing quality customer service. So I would definitely be working with the public in some capacity. Q. What is the best business advice you have ever received, and from whom? A. “Finish what you start, even if you fail,” from my grandmother.
